Ok Ok....so you may have heard already (???).....fuel issues / engine light issues....then to top it off bearing issues on the trailer yesturday at Nyngan which held us up for what felt like all day!!

So the water in the fuel -orange engine light came on after transfering fuel from sub tank (first time we'd done it) about 20km north of Narromine so finally after being sick of draining it and bleeding it we change the filter about 140km from Innamincka......

but....not solved yet...although Ross's magic formula did help.... the next 2 days or so we lost power when the light came on (didnt happen last time....so new symptoms)......finally in Bourke had it in at NRMA mechanic and he cleaned a few things out....seems to be the sensor we thought it was....!!

then thinking we would have a smooth run into Dubbo....yeah right!!

We had been missing a dust cover off the bearings for quite a few days...if not longer and spray can lids tapped on just didnt quite get us home.....it had let dust in and was burning hot so a new bearing kit was put in.....but done up too tight so when we stopped a few km down the road just to check they were screaing hot....so undone again.....oh and this still with a bit that had no place in the wheel....!.......fixed and then we take off only to be flashed....the nuts weren't done up...!! (dar!!!)

So did that and with the shi77s we got into Dubbo at 4pm....got a motel and went out for dinner only to be forgotten about with kids meals not coming out, drinks forgotten and desert "lost" in the order....Jonty getting cranky and throwing a glass onto the floor smashing it...!! (go kid!!)

apart from all that....we had a great time....camped at Thargomindah..Inna....down Strez cut across to Bore track (had a blast on that!!) and met Fina and Don at Cameron Corner...then again at Tib....into Bourke and then home on the black stuff (apart from Trunkey Creek and the like today).....

We had a great horse shoe comp ever arvo from John with gold coins flying high....Willem and his candle and spoon.....Sam and I crook trying to do trivia.....

I guess Willems report will come....if it hasnt already....

great to meet such great people.....finally getting faces to names!

catch ya's....(did I miss anything???)

Wer an into Fina and Don about 3.30pm at the Cameron Corner Store and again at Sturt National Park and we all departed next morning. We arrived at Nyngun at about 4.30pm yesterday so you we a little ahead of us. We had 2 nights at White Cliffs so we ended up a day behind you guys.. Good to see the problems were not really serious but i dont envy you playing with that bloody diesel fuel, God its awful stuff!!!!! Michael

Hi Laura

Good to hear that you arrived home safely despite a few mishaps.

And thank you so much for organising the Trivia Night. We all enjoyed it immensely.

My report is in thread 59797

I am sure that you will sort the Nissan out soon.

Cheers

Willem, I just played with the Tribal Dance pix, and can now see what all the frivolities were about. In the words of the younger generation (perhaps), OMG !

"transfering fuel from sub tank (first time we'd done it)"

Laura

You've probably worked out by now that each time you start up a small amount of fuel will be automatically transferred from you sub tank to the main. If you do enough starting and stopping it won't take too long for the sub tank to show half full on the gauge. This is a built in feature that has two positive effects (1) stops you leaving 'old' fuel in the tank for too long and (2) keeps the transfer pump lubricated so it will work when you really need it to on a long trip.
If you have water in the tank then I'm guessing that you picked up some crappy fuel somewhere along the road.

Cheers
Pete

Yep, what Pete said....... AND....... make sure you ALWAYS keep fuel in the sub tank.

I know of people who decided to just leave the sub tank empty (no need to cart fuel around when we aren't going on a long trip etc). Then, when they DID go away on a longer trip and decided to fill up the sub tank, they found out (too late?) that the sub tank's pump had chit itself because there was no fuel being pumped through regularly to keep it all lubricated etc. I believe a replacement transfer pump is about $700-!!!!

Cheers

$700 is correct, My Gu cost about $1500 to diagnose the problem over three sessions, Nissan said each time they had fixed the problem and it was not the pump... They finally replaced the pump and the problem gone,,,, so was the money LOL!!! Michael
