JohnR(Vic) and friends left Innamincka on Sunday bound for Warburton Crossing and the K1 Line and were then going to attempt the QAA Line back to Birdsville.

He is driving his Sahara towing the Kimberley Karavan. The van, weighing in at around 2 tons, is pretty agile but it remains to be seen how the Sahara takes it over the dunes. I advised real low tyre pressures if the going gets tough.

Willem,

I would say that he would be travelling very slowly and will need to use those extra fuel jerries you gave him.

Cheers Kev

Well JohnR and Navigator1 arrived out of the Simpson to our place about 4:00 pm yesterday. The drawbar is no longer straight, the dunny doesn't work and the KK had to be snatched over a couple of dunes! They reported that most dunes had numerous tracks over them and that they are badly cut about. (Navigator1 didn't have anything to whinge about tho). They met up with the west travelling lot on Tuesday for lunch in the Desert (John swears that Nick hasn't had to snatch over any dunes YET). They've left here just now heading for the Gold Coast in a hurry.

I'm glad he got through the desert unscathed....especially with his reputation for destroying diffs and the cruiser's reputation for having weak diffs!!!! hahahaha

Good stuff......

All travelling well today. In sunny Windorah and about to find a camp. Seems that Nissans are tthe ones to make troubles from what we heard. We had troubles where the intaller of Polyairs didn't provide the right protection arounnd the hole through the top of the springs and had some repair to do. Drawbar still slightly bent where the extension fixes to the KK original.

Handled superbly. Snatched 2m from the top of Big Red. Two in total. Dunes badly chopped by school holiday makers with high pressure in tyres.

Met with Nick R and family, Dasher Des, Big Kidz, RayJen Paj and Delica (members to be) for lunch between Eyre Creek and Poepel Corner on Tuesday.

More when we get wireless internet as they want to close here.

Hmmmm.............I wondered if you would be silly enough to attempt to take the Karavan over Big Red. And you have just confirmed it. Some people never grow up......LOL

So how did you bend the drawbar? And what has Nissan got to do with your tale? Yer speaking in riddles again.

Did you need the extra fuel in the end?

Roachie has to come clean on his Nissan, not me.

I heard that Little Red is chopped up worse than Big Red so I tried the chicken track on BR. I would have got up if it hadn't been for the chopping up of the previous holiday period leaving huge moguls on the track.

...... on the fuel Bro. Kath did pretty well for most of the SD trip. The day from camp on Warburton track just South of Poeppel to camp before Eyre Creek, it was about 19.6 l/100km indicating little strain. Next day was a little higher. We would nearly had enough fuel to do Innamincka to Birdsville without your jerries but thankfully you provided us the lack of worry with your loan. Thank you.

Talked to some folks who had done the Eastern end of the Rig Road with all the sand dunes. Heard one guy say he had had enough love of the Simpson but really it was interesting to hear different perspectives. International EO readers Daniel and Katerin (spell?) from Germany had lunch with us (Navigator 1 and us) and enjoyed their crossing in a V8 Troopie camper. Said it was as expected and they had to let their tyres down further for the last dune before the junction with K1. That section of the Rig Road doesn't get as much traffic as further West. Met EO Member Kingsley on the Warburton Track but the ones doing the SD the hardest were two cyclists from the ACT on the Warburton doing from the river to the Rig Road and return - a guy and gal.

We met a LC80 at the crest of a dune. They broadcast they were cresting a dune on channel 10 but we were already just at the top. It is hard to know what dunes people are cresting.

We caught up with John T and Julie at Big Red and again in Birdsville. Ruth and Ian too of course. Thanks for last night's dinner Ruth, it was beautiful.

Surprised at the green over so much of the Eastern desert area folloing the rain of a few weeks back.

Charleville tonight in a nameless cvp

Bro

Good to hear you made it through unscathed.

Sounds like the Simmo was busy. Methinks after 7 journeys through the desert I have seen enough of it as well....lol

Happy travels
