The Aussie version of Top Gear begins filming tomorrow at Camden Airport. It's only 5 mins down the road so guess I'll go check it out.
Wonder who Aussie Stig is going to be??

Why not have an Aussie Stig?
In the British version Ben Collins is "The Stig"i and races in the British Touring Car Championship.
Depending what channel it screens on the Aussie Stig will be someone like Grant Denyer, Glenn Ridge, or a rumour I heard was Gentleman Jim Richards.

I read in todays paper that the UK version has a 21 YEAR waiting list for poeple to part of the audiance, Thats something like 300000 poeple waiting for tickets, bit like the public health system here!
intresting to see how it shapes up.

I bet they are all journos from motor mags and will never say anything bad about any vehicle they test.
Lets hope the english one remains, not that I could ever purchase one of the super cars anyway.

Hope they test more down to earth cars and maybe a 4by or two.
All them Lambos, Ferraris and Bugattis start to look the same after a while.
Lionel.

I dont have very high expectations of it when compared to the original. There is just no way that the Aussie version will be able to pull off the stunts and challenges that they do. Too many do-gooders and law enforcers in this country.

All those negative thoughts probably come from many years experience of Assuie mags never ever saying a word of crtisicm of anything if they're receiving big dollars in advertising revenue.
When the West Australian does a road test it limply says something like "will easily exceed the State maximum speed" instead of saying how fast it'll actually go.
Wouldn't want to be accused of goading us all into a wild speed frenzy I suppose.
No doubt the Health and Safety Nazis have something to do with it as
well.
Happy motoring
Alan.

I think Top Gear is Top gear because it's Top Gear if you get my drift? Jeremy Clarkson and the other two make the programme what it is.
I am sick and tired of franchaise shows like Idol, Big Brother, Dancing with the stars etc being shown in every country with their own version.
Well actually I'm not sick and tired because I refuse to watch them.
I just cannot see the point in an Aussie version of "Top Gear"
Will every week be a Ford v Holden thing? Oh and of course there will be a segment on the P76
By the way Top gear viewers in the UK have great taste in vehicles, wasn't the defender voted best ever or something?

I don't know about the viewers, but this is what Jeremy Clarkson says about the Defender 90:
"The Defender is about as much fun to drive as a punctured wheelbarrow. "
He sums it up as:
"It’s rubbish: uncomfortable, slow, impractical and with prices starting at £20,000, not that cheap. "
In spite of that I quite like Defenders, but I've never driven a late model one. Maybe if I had I'd agree with Jeremy!!
Here's his review:

I agree and that's why I love it.
My other half has a new job as a Frontier
Services nurse.
She has a Patrol as a vehicle, now that's rubbish.
Well okay not entirely rubbish but so far all the screws haven't fallen out of the rear lights on our Defender which is what happens when we go out on a corrugated track.

It will have to be a lot better than the original to get me to watch.
I've never understood what all the fuss is about, but it somehow has achieved cult status. Just doesn't do it for me, but then I am lucky to turn the TEEV on more than once a week. I'm pretty fussy with my spare time.
Jim.
