Just upgraded my Patrol:

Old one is a a 2003 manual 3.0 Patrol with 285/75/16 coopers which was giving me approx. 800km to both tanks, I was happy with this. (I have done 137,000km with no dramas at all and liked it so much i bought another one so, no 3.0 bashers please).

The new one is a 3.0 auto with 285/70/17 Coopers so same diameter and is struggling to get 600km to both tanks.

I know the odometer is out a bit on both due to tyre diameters, and I expect autos to use more fuel but am a bit dark on these figures, am hoping the new one will improve once it is run in.

What are other new Patrol drivers getting?

My father has also traded his '00 3.0 on a 07 and on his first open road run returned 15/100k, over 700 ks
He put on the old roofrack (empty) and is preatty much STD except for b/bar,only had luggage for an overnight stay, alot worst than the 11's he used to get.
Not too worried, YET!, needs some time to "bed in" he thinks.

Hey Shane,

With the revs in the low 2's at 100km in OD I expeced highway to be pretty bloody good.

Note the old car was at 2850rpm at 100kmh, you would think the 2008 would hose it for economy.

First two highway trips were towing a boat from Melb to SA and got less than 600ks, ouch.

I should add that he's got a manual.

I have a 1HZ 'Yota and loaded to the hilt got high 14's over 11000 k trip which included a Simmo crossing, a bit of territory style speed limits (read FLAT OUT), as well as 2 days in the Vic high country.
He is a little concerned but also relalize's that it should be a little worst than the old one, not a lot worst!.
I be having a look at this thread later myself to see what you dig up.
Shane.

Not to good Darren my 4800 consistently gets than that and well into 700's , but its a manual though.

You might need to re-check how you got those figures as they indicate 16.5 lt/100km from a car rated at 11

The argument that it will free up is not very relevant these days and mainly used as an excuse to delay finding the real issue.

Not too good, tell me about it!

No scientific methodology, just fill it and reset the odometer. Drive till the red light has been on for a while and fill again taking 105 litres plus, so am using just about the lot.

Only up to 4,00km so ws hoping for some post run in improvement, not likely by the sound of it.

great car to drive though, the auto that is, just need to take out finance to go to the shop.

Don't really know how far a tank gets me however I have managed 10L/100 on the highway with light load and two of us at 110Kph or so in N.T.

Most of the time I get 12 to 13 a 100 around town and up to 16L/100 towing the van 2300Kg tandem.

Mine is an auto 2003 model with 70,000 on the clock.

Forgot to mention the tyres are about had it and I have ordered a set of Eldorado ZTR's in 70 size like the originals.
I am a bit scared of the plods picking me up for oversize rubber in Qld.

Thanks Don,

about two days reading there but good stuff, and hopefully some light at the end of the very dark and expensive tunnell.

Another member on here has an auto 3.0 c/rail and talks consistently of 16lt/100km. Like you he has not been too happy but last discussion with them, they are over worrying too much and are just getting on with enjoying what is a very nice vehicle in every other respect. I think theirs has got slightly better on fuel as it gets a few miles on it but still nothing like thier old diesel terracan :-((

Good luck with it.
Trevor.

Jesus those Fuel Consumption figures are horrendous.

My D4D Prado Auto was getting mid to high 9L / 100km from the word go, in the city. The missus, with a bigger lead foot was getting high 10L/100km in the city.

Since I've added a Sovereign Bull Bar, Roof Racks & 50mm Lift Kit, consumption has gone to high 10's / low 11's in the city.

Bad fuel consumption !

I have adjusted my driving habits, to get the most out of every Lt of fuel, and will never get a fitch or a hyclone, Usually all tied up in the "right foot syndrome",,,,,and when that fails.... look the mechanics of your truck.

If you have passed that department, then may I suggest you look at putting your vehicle on a dyno, and if deisel opening up the exhaust to 3"..
Cheers
Bucky
