There is currently a traveller stranded, with broken suspension, on the Trans Access Road- approx. 35k East of Nurina WA.
Inquiries to RACWA (Norseman) for recovery indicated a quote of just $12,000- with the RAC plus cover would cover the first $2,000- so the member would be up for $10,000
A few telephone calls around the place found Mikes Towing at Kalgoorlie- who would do the recovery back to Kal. for $3,000.
Dunno what RACWA were going to use- probaly an Erikson AirCrane !!
By the way- the traveller is a VKS737 member- and all the organisation, phone calls and monitoring of the situation is being carried out by the ' Network' .

Signman,

Good and bad news, but it pays to belong.

PS. I will try and get you on VKS next Sunday from some where in the Kimberly.

I'm in the RAA in SA and I did not think there was a limit on the RAA's tow costs. Can anybody confirm the situation?

I have been with them and affilicated organisations interstate for the last 45 years and only used them once so they must be well in front if I am ever in such a situation.

As a mermber of RAC WA, if we are in another state and need a call out - they arrange it with that state's equivalent - and the conditions of that state apply as i understand it.

Yep, details here.

I've never bothered upgrading my membership because the extra benefits are not of any use to me when I'm outside of civilisation, no matter what level of cover I have.

They are still a very good organisation and try their best to help out.

I spoke to the RAA about the 2000kg limit some time ago and they commented that they would try to accomodate my 2495Kg van if they could at no cost to myself.

I think they are limited by some other state motoring organisations that have a 2000kg limit.

Got back from my trip through the Gt Vic Desert on Sunday and on Friday we got chatting to a couple from Vic who's travelling companions hit strife on the Gt Central Rd had to get a flat top from Noresman a 1200Km trip just to get to the people. Shudder to think what their bill would of been. Saw the car in Kal on Saturday on the flat top around the cnr from the Caltex servo.

We just got back from W.A. AB Highway Pilbara etc. Mate had his Nissan 3 ton towed on car trailer by RACWA from Nature's Window into Kalbari, then also had his Adventure camper towed in.

Spoke to locals here RAA and yes if they come out in a panel van etc they will not Tow but if they have equipement, it seems no problems.

Of course there are always exceptions...
