I have the choice of a Tom Tom ONE XL or a Navman S80.
Any opinions about which one or reasons why to buy or not to buy either.

I have the Tom Tom and I find it easy to use and update the maps on the computer....................if you get the one with the latest maps that YOU have to download 90mgs, I suggest that you go to your local tele centre and download the maps there, if like me, you are on a broadband 200mg monthly plan.

We like to use the GPS'es as a speedo Twinkles.
In fact a lot of the time this becomes a main use.
While all of them have speed as a readout , many only have this in small text making it had to see at a glance.
We didn't buy a Tom Tom one recently because of this.

Don't know about S80 , but our road angel , Quest, GPS 11, GPS 111 and GPS276c all have large useful speed displays.

Twinkles,
get one that has the "voice" street name and travel directions as they only have to be listened to - not looked at.

I was using one in Perth last week and it's just like having a 'person' sitting beside you telling me I have to turn left or right in 'x' meters at (name) street, it was so simple to get to places where I had never been previously and I never had to take my eyes off the road at any time or worry if I was going on correct road etc.
Try one of these b4 you make any purchasing decision.

After the useless piece of chit that we bought from Aldi died we bought a Navman, basic S30.

The salesman suggested it over the Tom Tom for one reason. The Tom Tom requires suburb first, them street name. The Navman will do it either way. The problem with suburb first is that you may put in Dandenong and can't find the street because it is listed in the GPS memory as Dandenong South.

Not sure if this is the case with all models but worth some thought.

Jim.
