Exploder
Was out on the Hwy in the lux yesterday
At 110km/h in 5th gear it was doing just under 3900RPM, is this right, sounds way too high to me.
Firth gear Ratio is .851:1, rear axle is ether 4.11 or 4.85. Calculated it myself and used a few internet gear calculators and the numbers aren't adding up.
It's a 96 Tray top 22R Petrol.

Hi Exploder, My old runner with 22r use to do 3000rpm at 100. But speedo was fast by 6ks. The diff should be 4.85. To make it worse they are not a engine that particularly like revs. I wonder if yours has even lower gears. Mind you low first is 48 to one.
Cheers Pete

Sounds high.
My 96 pajero has 4.8 diffs, .85 5th gear, 32" tyres and we do about 3100rpm at 110 km/hr.
What size tyres do you have?
If 29" add 10%, which would be about 3500 rpm.
Tacho reading correctly, or slipping clutch? What is the clutch like on taking off on a
hill? How many Ks since the clutch was done? But you should smell a hot clutch.

Hi exploder check to see if the speedo has been recalibrated may be reading slow. They came out with 28in tyres(205/16)
If you have a gps it will be easy to check. The 31s would take the sting out of the old 22r.lol

yeah cheers mate, will do soon as i get it back on the road, I have just knocked the welsh plugs out of the right side of the block as one was weeping, figured i may as
well do all 3
well i had the manifold off.
Yeah something is not right with the revs Vs High speed.
Clutch perhaps slippage at high speed?? selecting second gear at high 1st speed's and reverse is sometimes a bit crunchy and you have to sort of easy it in, but if you double clutch it, smooth every time.

Mechy Fitter mate, last gearbox I installed weighed 3.6ton.
Reverse gears are Spur Cut, that’s why I’m leaning towards clutch, 2nd could be a synchro but I hope not
