This is a follow up in relation to the fitting of a dump pipe, 3 inch system and an extra 3 pound of boost to my GU 4.2. The power increased by nearly 30% from 76kw to 96kw at the
wheels. I have now driven it to work for a week which includes some freeway and stop start driving. The extra power is very good and is hard not to use it as it now comes on boost a lot earlier. The figure I got was 12.8/100 or 7.8 km/lt. This about the same as before the mod which is pretty good considering the extra power and torque I now have. What other mod can you do to increase power by that much and still retain the same economy if not increase it! The pump was not touched as it was already set right. Looking to put the Jayco Eagle on now and see how it performs. I have no prior figures as I only recently purchase the vehicle. It has 189k on it. Cheers, Chambo

More boost and no fuel pump increases on a STD GU turbine housing will make more power but you should also have the turbo modded to let the extra heat out of the engine, that is the problem with the TD42t.

Which will also result in more power and torque after the pump has been adjusted and dyno tuned.

Hi Matt, It left with the same exhaust temps as it had before it was done so there should not be an issue. My neighbour Joel from PGS did the tune and he knew that I wanted it super reliable. He checked the pump settings and they were spot on. He only increase the boost by 3PSI which is very little in the scheme of things. The biggest increase was from the dump pipe and exhaust. Still as quiet as a mouse inside so very happy. We're taking it away this weekend so we'll see how it goes with some highway cruising. cheers, Chambo

Yeah its sounds good and joel knows what hes doing ,i was just replying to you question about how to get more power out of it again.
The EGT's are not the real issue on the TD42t's its the turbine back pressure and heat retention in the manifold that is the issue when increasing boost and fuel on a STD turbine housing. They dont breathe properly.

G'day again Matt,
I'm not after more power, It was just a statement about how much you got for so little effort. You just mistook what I was trying to say. I should have written it a little betterer. Cheers, Chambo

Gday chambo late response i know but like you i could not be happier with the diffrence a 3 inch exh made to the td42itd ive had exhaust temps ect checked and i reckon this simple mod has given the right combonation of power/economy for towing or touring
I can cruise at 110km with the 17 foot van on and get 650 km with 2 standard tanks
well im happy Cheers Barney
