Navigator wont start up so i've done the following
1 Checked to see that power is coming from ciggy lighter
2 Fuse in pwer lead to unit is not blown
3 12v Lead should be ok because have now plugged unit into computer USB port and it still won' t fire up.
4 Pg 24 of book says to hold power button down for 1 minute-no result
5 Have tried unsuccesfully to get faceplate off unit to reset(Pg 22) but this procedure is usually only necessary if unit freezes.
6 Haven't dropped it or left in hot sun.
Any suggestions or theories welcome
TKS
This unit had a browse mode activated by "to" "arrow" browse"
which was really useful. The Nuvi 260 doesn't seem to have this feature and has some complicated simulation mode. Have I got it wrong?

BUT WAIT THERE"S MORE :
Just below the card slot there is a little rubber plug/button. What's it for?
Rather than entering "Mudgereeba" as part of the address, is it possible to enter a postcode instead. Hard to put in M..... and not stuff it up when you're belting down the M1. Figs would be easier.
Read on the web that you could do this with the 260 but .....

Little Rubber button when removed is the plug for an external aerial.
To get faceplate off = Place finger nail under Garmin on faceplate and lift gently and it will come off easily.
That is about as far as I can help.
Maybe you have left it on too long and completely discharged the internal battery.
Only other thing I can suggest is to plug it into the pooter and see if it will recharge from there or perhaps leave it connected to the car for a short time 1 hour.
Give Johnny Appleseed a ring on 1800 477 477 and see if they can help.

thanks Dodg,
Don't think that a rundown battery is the problem because is permanently hooked up to ciggy outlet and always defaults to switching off unless you specifically tell it to stay on.
Lent my ute to someone on the weekend who I am sure didn't frigg around with it but It's always a bit of a worry when it happens while is in the hands of someone else.
Do you think there's any point in pulling the faceplate off?

The Garmin help desk is probably the best bet on the no below they were extremely helpfull when I upgraded my maps.
Phone: Please call 1-800-800-1020. Our customer service agents are available to assist you M-F, 8-5 Central Time.
Or as a last resort Try ringing Johnny Appleseed as I said they are very helpfull.

Had exactly the same thing happen to my C510 when it was only a couple of weeks old. I took it back to Dick Smiths, the store where I bought it and they couldn't get it going again, so they just replaced it. I emailed Garmin about another issue and they got back to me very quickly with an answer.

Thanks Guys,
Yes, you're right. Best to get garmin to look at it.
Go up to Brizzy every second day so not difficult to drop off.
C510 is a good unit but just too bulky to put in your pocket when getting out of ute in dodgy areas, so I bought a 260 as a backup.
Just as
well.
