WE have recently had a Dometic air cond. / heater fitted to our pop top c'van, made especially for pop top vans we were told. Haven't had a real opportunity to try out the air cond. side, but are extremely disappointed at the heating side of the thing, practically no heat at all. Is ours a lemon or is there something that can be done?
Would appreciate any help. Didn't realise the extra weight would be so noticable, people who fitted it placed it v. close to the rear making it substantially heavier to lift.....maybe should've gone into it more..

I am sorry to tell you that your troubles have just begun. My dad had this done too. He was told by several workshops not to but he eventually found someone who agreed to fit the aircond. It was noisy and not very good at heating or cooling but worse was to come. The weight made the roof bow even though the approved cross frame was fitted. This caused the roof to accumulate
water and leak. He had the aircond taken off and resealed twice but could not eliminate the leaks because of the bowing. Eventually he had to get the a/c removed and buy a new roof. The workshop that did this also sold his a/c for him (so someone else will be just beginning what he has gone through). A long, upsetting and expensive saga for a bloke of 82 who still loves caravanning.

We have a Dometic B2200 fitted to our van and find the heating to be wanting, even with double glazed windows and roof vents closed. However the cooling works
well even on the slowest speed.
I did find a number of vents in the floor around the HWS and Gas fridge, also a vent above the shower. I am sure this would cause some heat loss.

Noddy,
we had a Dometic B1900 fitted to our van. It was dead out of the box, which may explain your lack of heating. We never tried the cooling side of things until summer in
Perth (6 months after purchase).
Cooling was dead as
well.
Contact your local Dometic service agent. We did and when we mentioned the model he said it would be replaced completely, which it was.
Heating is now fine, although it is only drawing air from IN the van over a heated element and blowing it back out into the van. Takes a while but does work OK. On ours we can pull down and remove the black vents and actually see the element, if you can put your hand in and near the element you should be able to feel some heat coming from it.
If not, you've got a dud.
cheers

Thankyou for all replies. The unit is a B19OOS. According to the data sheet, the heating capacity is 1200, I would assume that is watts, but you wouldn't know it when switched on. I will contact the Dometic people and see what happens, too much money involved to put up with this.
Once again thanks folks.

When i restored my toyoace pop top motor home i installed a dimplex reverse cycle air con,i sacrificed the centre cupboard in the front kitchen to put it in and am happy to say works perfectly both on heat and cool.
Bought it on e bay for $180 brand new still in box, was used as demo,it is no noisier than the unit i had in my coaster, that $2800 i saved buys a fair bit of diesel and now i see a lot of trouble as
well, nearly bought a dometic one,
