Hi Tucker,
I asked on this
forum. MOst people can give you recent comments. I have seen a few question from you about your CSR trip and if you use "contact member" I will give you my number so you can call me. I finished last week. You will also find more and more people finishing in the next few week as the track is getting rather busy. Use the thread Search and it should give you all the related discussions from the past.
Cheers

Tucker
The CSR is never maintained.
It is a 2000km sandy track running diagonally across a whole heap of
sand dunes. The higherst
sand dune used to be 17 metres in height. Going south to north the dune dunes are chopped up in
places due to the amount of traffic over it and people running too high pressures in their tyres.
In some
places the track surface is hard and in other
places very corrugated. The track surface does not change very often except when it rains.
If you drive it this year or next year in dry conditions it will be the same as it has been since vehicles started running it in the 1950's.
Cheers

VKS737 radio network is arguably the best way to get the latest updates in fact if you listen to the evening sched you'll get real time reports or you can speak to a member on the track & ask questions. As great as ExOz is for track reports there are very few logging into the net via satellite so normally updates on here are one to three weeks old. Local rain is possibly the biggest issue regarding access & if you don't have a
HF radio then stopping in at the
police station (or pub) at either end should be able to give you the latest info before heading off.

Hi Mate,
Crackles is right. I am a member of VKS737 and the SKEDS are the best way to gain the fresh view on things, but the
forum will only be a week or two behind!! When we refuelled at
Halls Creek we gave our reports on the track to the
visitors centre opposite the Shell Servo. They do take notice but do not record this information down. They also have the only souvenirs for the CSR so buying a $3.50 sticker or a shirt is good after the effort. You should also visit the butcher just for the
sign!!!!!!
