It is a 4wd, but off topic, has anybody any idea what the plane is in the current Tourag ad? It looks like a jumbo, but engine configuration is wrong....................The vast knowledge of the "Forum" will enlighten me...........................

It's a 747. There's an article about it on this link:

Google .015 secs

The plane used for the stunt was a decommissioned Boeing 747-200 that weighs 155 tons

An initial trial was carried out successfully in Germany with an operational Boeing 747-400 weighing 190 tonnes but it subsequently became difficult to obtain an aircraft for the length of time and in an appropriate location to conduct a press demonstration. Colleagues therefore requested Volkswagen UK to obtain a suitable aircraft and location.

The result was an ex-British Airways Boeing 747-200 weighing 155 tonnes. The aircraft, first flown in 1980 and retired last year retains its full complement of 500 seats, 11 toilets and complete landing gear, albeit without an operating braking system. The original engines were removed last year to make way for dummy items used in the filming of a recent motion picture. Despite this, the aircraft still weighs 155 tonnes, due in part to the 28 tonnes of water held on board in the fuel and nose tanks.

The 747 in the ad is fitted with non-standard twin engine nacelles. This is really just a dummy, the plane was used as a prop in the movie "Casino Royale". It has never flown with this engine configuration.
Cheers

And don't think this is a bog-standard Touareg - it had to have lots of weight added and suspension modified - otherwise the wheels would have just skidded.

I remember one of the original reviews I read of the Touareg. The journo was commenting on the V10's prodigious torque and said that it "pulls like a teenage boy with a porno..."
