Do a search on the net there have been scientific tests done which personal experience has backed up to prove that most original filter offer superior filtration.
Not trying to start an argument but it is best to be aware.

Hi Peter,
I don’t doubt that Genuine filters offer superior filtration. I've watched a few threads myself on the subject.
I decided to get a K&N filter because i like the fact that if I can’t get my hands on a Genuine filter for awhile and I’m traveling dusty roads I can wash it many, many times over.
I know you can wash Genuine Toyota filters a few times, but there must come a point where they become unusable or their performance is lacking. 30 odd bucks is 30 bucks. this can add up to a small fortune in the dry months.
I know you’ve been chasing one for awhile now Mark. Good to see it’s finally turned up.

and here is a test from
30 July 1996
If it is you, you really don't like them K & N Filters or after market ones.
Hmmm
I think you'll fine maintance is the key to everything.

Yes it was me,and will I post up anything I think is relevant to the post subject.
What I post is based on some scientific findings rather than the nonsense claims about filters and fuel saver devices.
K&N or Unifilter have never posted any proof that their filter is better or lasts longer than the factory filter.
They rely on cheapskates to go on and on about how they save $30 each time regardless of the fact they maybe damaging their engine.
Have a look at those graphs in the link and tell me there is nothing wrong with what your using.
And I actually use a lot of aftermarke filters, just not the ones that vary in composition from the original.

come on
ROSS,dont tell me you have'nt anything on your vehicle that that isnt STANDARD? by putting something on your car or 4by that the manufacturer hasn't put there would be causing some sort of wear or stress.even wider tyres causes all sorts of things to wear out quicker.

Your presumption that I'm a 'Cheapskate' is wrong.
Many years ago I raced Cross Country Bikes and have built several V8's in my day. I have used washable filters for many years in Race application as
well as normal driving conditions and when maintained they have served me
well.
I have looked at the graphs and they are pretty.

To MarkG No, I generally refrain from modifications. I have he standard bull bar and split rim on my 75 series and my 73 series has some 31x10.5x15 and bullbar and thats about it.
I buy products that offer the same specs as Toyota where possible and go to the dealer if I cant get it elsewhere.
I also believe in replacing parts before they are totally stuffed.

To Hairs .
That is load of red herrings. As I said before,k&N maybe fine on the race track,im not argueing that.
Your V8 rebuild and motorbikes has nothing to do with filtration.
The graphs ,in case you couldnt understand them show the K&N and Unifilter losing its filtration qualities very early.
They also show they didnt have evry good filtration quality to start with
The K&N started the test with 96.8% compared to the AC/delco paper filter at 99.93%
But of course you raced dirt bikes once(yawn) and had a v8 (yawn)

Forgive me Father for I have sinned. :(
I did not listen to the gospel according to
Ross, and AC/Delco.
Your mention that my V8's and Bikes has nothing to do with Filtration,
So please enlighten me
Ross as to how they breathe in dusty environments. This is real life experiences. Again you presume, that i am of an intelligence incapable of understanding a couple of brightly coloured graphs. I'm happy you find some Solis in your graphs.
You obviously have a barrow to push. (Yawn)
Thanks for the info

Thats good news Mark , they need the better protection for our fine dust in Australia.
You reminded me that my 6 year old one has come unglued a bit and I had better get a replacement outer cover.
