The organiser of the Citroen Raid rally which will be in WA in Sept posted a reply to someone asking about carrying fuel in 2CVs
"The requirement is to carry enough fuel to travel 600km ... how you want to do that is entirely up to you. Some opt for larger and/or additional fixed tanks. Some mount jerry cans on bootlids or rear doors. Some carry them inside the car, it is a great incentive to give up smoking.
Fuel drops have ceased because australian standards make it illegal to fill any portable container over 25 litres with petrol. "

Is the last bit right.?
Are steel drums portable containers?

Hi wigger,
The last bit about not filling portable containers over 25L. explains the signs I see on some of the bowsers.

"This facility is not equiped to fill containers over 25 liters"

I just thought it was because they didnt want people using their dockets to take too much fuel at the "cheaper rate".

Then again it would not surprise me if the oil companies had the ear of the leglistlators and that was the whole reason.

Whats the difference between filling a 20L jerry can or another suitable container of 30 liters?
William

Hi William,
The dockets are only good for a maximum of 150 litres anyway.

I make sure that I get every one of those 150L. And it still doesn't fill the car........

A fuel tank is still a container isn't it? Maybe double standards??

:))

Some funny rules out there when it comes to filling drums with petrol, was in woolies petrol today and they said they would not let me fill a 200 lt drum with unleaded but I could fill as many 20 lts as I wanted, didn't matter if it was 50. So figure that one out.

G"day RosscoH,
I bet if you found a smaller servo not affilliated with the big companies (assuming price being equal), that the console operator would not know about the new standards and you could get away with it.

RosscoH,

So therefore you would first have to pump the fuel into a 20L drum, then pour the 20L into the 200L drum....

Just fill up the drum without them looking! When they tell you you can't do it, tell them they can have there fuel back!

I was in Woollies a few months ago filling up with LPG and ULP at the same time. A voice came over the loud speaker saying that I can only do one thing at a time. I ignored the voice but when I went to pay I got chatted up about it. I told to manager, whose voice it was, to come out from behind his desk and talk to me personally in the driveway if he had any gripes and not to shout it over the loudspeaker.
