A day off, a few things to do, I make a wrong turn and need to make a u turn in the Hilux in a dead end street, a small narrow street, not a car to be seen, and ominously the only power pole in the street with a metal protective sheet around it is the one in my rear view mirror, I check where it is, no worries, I reverse, clunk .... bugger, there goes another dent in the styleside and a big crack in the corner light. I swear someone must be filming it, but how'd they move the pole? And what are all those bits of other people's paint doing on it. Is this one of those palces in Australia where the light plays tricks on the level of the land?
Oh, the and our new chickens are now laying eggs, in the neighbours kitchen ...
Not going out tonight, just in case.

Yep Porl, had a day or two like that myself previously. Was reversing the old commodore into a
parking spot when I was up North (Forster) I saw the pole that had a
sign on it reverse
parking, must have been 7 foot high so wasn't blocked by boot lid. My cousin was going to
park next to me and he was chucking a u turn in front of me, as I could see he wasn't going to make a complete turn with out me going back a tad more I went back to save him having to reverse that bit,
well "Bang" straight into the pole. Damaged the rear bar and it just touched the spoiler on the boot lid. Lucky was just like a stone chip on the spoiler but the bar you could see where the paint crazed. Was so bleep off with myself I couldn't believe I did some thing like that LOL. Never worried about getting it touched up. Was waiting for some one to rear end me but never happened.Other then that was the only mark on the car and was still like new everywhere else. Had it 5 years,72thou klms. Sold it to the son of a bloke I work with. He had it two weeks and got rear ended big time, Was only a few grand off been ridden off. Regards Steve M

G'day Porl,
Sorry to read of your misfortune. If the wallet can stretch a bit further than the panelbeater's bill, try installing a reversing camera system. An installation is not a very difficult task for most handy people.
In a moment of weakness (and enthusiasm) I bought a reversing system from a grand-talking rep. at a recent 4WD &
Camping Supershow. I installed most of the bits myself and I got my local auto electrician to do the final connection. It's been wired into the 2006 DC Hilux so that it can be used as necessary and not only when reverse gear has been selected. I placed the wide style numberplate camera over the red light above the tailgate latch. The camera cable (with an inbuilt power strand) was integrated into the loom which previously supplied power to the light. I fed the camera cable completely through the light; I drilled a hole through it and sealed it up again ( around the cable) with silicone. The cost for me: $350 all up.
If a camea system is not the answer a new set of spectacles might be the go !
Cheers,
Netnut

There was panel
shop in
Cairns (Scott Street Panel Works) that had a badly placed power pole outside & lots of people went in for a quote on their car & reversed into the pole on the way out
I think the panel
shop didn't mind as it was good for buisness
Also i was also sitting in my vehicle in
Berri SA a couple of months ago & watched a commodore wagon reverse into a post in the wollies car
park
The post is about 4 feet high & painted the same colour as the wall behind it (crazy) but it is about 4 feet out from the wall
When you look in the rear view mirror it blends into the wall & it doesn't actually protect anything
