For those who do their own servicing what is the best oil (cost and performer etc).
I have just been under Darkie checking the condition of the undercarriage including bolts after the Innamincka trip and discovered the rear Diff breather has parted ways. So I will now have to replace the diff breather and I'll do the Diff oil while I am at it.

Cheers Kev

The best is Castrol LSX 90. I use it because it has additional EP antiwear due to its design for limited slip applications.
It also has Mack Trucks GO-J approval. This spec sets the gear oils apart for wear protection.

I would not use synthetics such as Castrol SAF-X or any other synthetics as while they are excellent for EP antiwear they are also very resistant to emuslification with water so if you get some moisture in the diff it will not emusify with the oil and remains as fee water which causes corrosion too quickly, like overnight!!

I also use the Castrol LS90 and change it every 40k. Its the same specs as Toyota recommend.

Thanks Bushtrek and Phil,

I only went and bought engine oil this morning for 20% off at Super Crap so will have to go back and pick up some Diff oil and a new hose and filter for the diff breathers (might as well do both in one hit.
How much oil approx for each diff is needed (RFS)??

Cheers Kev

Totally agree, 90 grade oil of most descriptions goes to crap if worked hard, Learnt that with final drives and diffs in all size earthmoving equipment.

Cheers Axle.
