I managed to get myself an aluminium box to keep the Handhelds safe as
well as the accessories...Now for the big question,Do i leave the battery (Li-Ion ) on the handheld or seperate it during non use,It can be months or more in between usage at the moment...
Cheers in advance

Seperate it, and follow the instructions that should have come with the radios on battery life.

We had a Uniden handheld at one stage, and we found that if you leave it unused and batterry attached for a period of time, then next time you go to use it you'll find it's flat anyway, with ours this was after a few days. I'm not sure if the separated battery would hold it's charge, but at least there is no chance of corrosion / leakage or anything else that could damage the unit.
