I read some time ago about a seal in the clutch master cylinder/vacuum that goes and stops the master cylinder from working, does anyone know about this. the thread was about someone getting caught in the Simpson with the problem.
what i would like to know is which seal is it.
cheers shane.

if driving around town or suck using clutch constantly no problem, but don't use it for say 10 minutes it is nearly impossible to change down without pumping the peddle a half a dozen times.
had the fluid changed and bleed twice with no change. no fluid leak and nothing behind the carpet on the inside.
just looking for suggestions. next step is a master cylinder rebuild i think but thought i would ask about the vacuum side.
cheers shane.

Probably Master cyl but it could be taking in air from the slave cylinder. I have had that problem in a previous vehicle (Not a 4x4)

Shane, Just check for fluid around the slave cyl first..... You only need a worn cup seal, it can suck air without necessarily letting fluid out in a big way.. Michael

The Vacuum booster is only to make the pedal easy to push and is separate from the hydraulics. I bet it gets hard to push the clutch when you pump it 5 or 6 times... Michael

"needs a new vacuum pump on alternator"

Not likely.. the brakes would not work very well either if that was the case!

Besides, the 3l GU has the vaccum pump in the engine block.
The 2.8 in the rocker cover..

Cheers

vacuum pump on the 4.2 GU is separate under power steering pump, the breaks work fine. yes the peddle does get hard after pumping a few times, there is definitely no fluid at all leaking.
i have ordered a kit for the master cylinder but as usual it has to come from japan, 10 days, think i will do the slave as well.
IS THIS SOMETHING THAT CANE BE DONE AT HOME by none mechanic?
cheers shane.

Hi Shane, I know this doesn't help you, but
I've had an intermittent dragging clutch on my 4.2 GU, and while I think it's a dicky spigot bearing, a mate reckons change the clutch master cylinder first, as this is the cheapest option to dropping the gearbox.
So question is, are there after-market master cylinders, or does one have to get a full-price one from Nissan?
cheers,
Gerry

hi joc45, my mechanic said there is an after market master and slave cylinder but i am going to get him to put a genuine kit through it first.
I have done 210 000ks on original clutch so that's next i think. will be putting an xtream 60% more pressure clutch and pressure plate. my mechanic is nearly 60 so i will be helping him do the box. this should reduce the price some i hope.
the price for the clutch kit is around $550.00 hear in Adelaide.
cheers Shane.
