I have a 05 LandCrusier ute it currently has 265/70r16 tyres which is what it came out from the factory with.
Iam just wondering wether to put 285/75r16 or 265/75r16
is there any problems occur with fitting larger tyers
i will be spending more time touring more than rockcrawing
just wondering people's opion.

Thanks Dusty

Dusty,

I'm assuming you have the RV with the 16x7 mags.
285/75R16 need 8 inch wide mags, so if you want to keep it legal, you'd have to change wheels.

On the 16x7 wheels you still have a choice:
235/85R16 - I'd only suggest them if you are a diehard desert traveller
265/75R16 - if you pick an aggressive pattern like MTR or a muddie, you'll be good for both desert and high country
255/85R16 - these are a taller tyre that go well on a 7 inch rim. Not a whole lot of choices available, but BFG muddies, some Cooper and Maxxis. Next time round I was thinking of using Maxxis MA-761 which have a 3-ply sidewall.

You'll have no problems with clearance with any of these sizes.

Hi Phil

Why do you say " 235/85R16 - I'd only suggest them if you are a diehard desert traveller"

I run these size tyres and just curious about your comment.

Cheers
Dick

Been there and done that!! 255/85/17" Coopers ST's did the trick for me. Best option to suit my touring requirements with about 5% better increase in speed over the 265/75/17's. Don't need new rims or flares for the wheel arches either! Have a think about thiis option it may just be right for you too....maybe??

Hi Dick,
I was pretty much referring to the original poster's situation - I guess I wouldn't fit them to a 16x7 RV mag wheel. I wasn't speaking generally.

235/85R16 look a bit underwidth when you fit them to the 16x7 rims - better on a 6 or 6.5 inch rim. And most likely they'd be harder to reinflate tubeless in the bush on a 7inch rim than a 6 inch rim. And the mag would be more likely to get scratched up.

Cheers
Phil

and do you mean that 285/75 You'll have no problems with clearance or just the sizes that will fit the 16x7s
and if i do put the biger tyers on will i lose much power?

I run 285/75/16s on my leaf sprung troopy and the only time i touch is on full lock the tyre just rubs on the spring. You will need 8 rims for them so Phils sugestion of 235 or 255/85/16s is a good option.

I have both, problem is one set is worn out. Bloody tyres
