Sitting around the fire in the desert west of the Oakover River and Godfrey the EO lurker drops a bombshell .

" Didn't you know that if you tie your laces in a reef knot ( R over L , L over R ) , they never slip ."

So simple and yet for 50 years I have been tying knot on top of knot , to stop the bloody things coming undone .

Such a simple idea , but not so simple to actually do , if you've been doing it the wrong way for 50 years . The secret Godfrey told me , is to do the first part of the knot the other way , then finish as normal .

Now I can sit back and happily wait for a comment from DIO .

Cheers ,

Willie.

Hi Willie

Gees mate, whats with the Laces thing?
I gave up tying Laces when I stopped playing Foot Ball,
Now I wear Slipons for Shoes or Pullons for Boots,
Maybe I am lazy lol.

DIO was lurking here just down the forum page a bit earlier on.

I'm with Dazza, Willie. I can't bend over long enough these days to tie knots. Most of my hinges don't work to well any more. Go with the slip ons mate, boots and slippers. I love the Japenese safety boots, they're easy. LOL.

Fred.

Bugger that Willie.

I just had a go. I'd hate to try to get the bloody things undone if I was Schindler's List.

Willie,
Truckster is the resident brain on all things shoelace. I'm sure you were around here for his last shoelace thread....

Willie, the main thing is life is not your shoe laces.
The main thing in life is that you have used your WILLIE correctly

Hi Louie ,

I was very excited to look at " Shoe Lacing Photo of the Week ".

I think this site might be an arm of the "Obsessive Society of Australia "

Cheers ,

Willie .

I find the Shoe Lace Length Calculator particularly useful. And I didn't know there were so many ways of tying a shoelace. I found it by chance while trying to find the name of the little plastic thingy on the end of a shoelace (its called an aglet)

But all jokes aside, there is actually some info on there that us camping / traveling folk will find useful. No, I'm not taking the pi*s.

Hi Willie,

I can better that. I got to 60 and numerous pairs of training shoes along the track before I recently bought a new pair to go overseas in.

The youngish lady assistant asked " you know how to lace them up?"

I thought it was awind up so I replied cheekily, "No love it's the first pair I have ever had."

She took my reply at face value and showed me how to use the extra lace hole at the topof each side to run a loop on each side through which the opposite lace finally threads and so pulls the top of the trainer to fit snuggly around the ankle.

Of course I had seen the extra lace hole oodles of times but I had always thought the extra lace hole was a mistake.

Don't know how many injuries I could have saved had I met the lady years ago.
