My family & I are currently in Darwin and we were unsure if we should do one of the Jumping Crocodile Cruises on offer here. A couple went on one last week at 11am and saw not one croc jump out the water so I didn't want to spend $80 just to see a couple of crocs sunning on the bank.

We did end up going and chose to go with Hunter Safari's Adelaide River Experience Jumping Crocodile Cruise and it was well worth the money. We saw over 10 crocodiles and nearly all of them "jumped" and because the boat isn't that big you can get really close to them - without being too close!! It was a fantastic experience for both the adults and the children.

So if you are in Darwin and intend to do a Jumping Crocodile Cruise I really recommend this one as value for money.

Blimey,
I would hope one doesn't crash onto the boat. Maybe one of our member NT (or croc) gurus could answer a question for me. Wouldn't this make it very dangerous for the innocent guy up there fishing. If he was casting for barra or such could it be possible for the croc to jump at his rod. Or am I one of Willems worry worts. (lol Willem)

Yes and No....lol

I was privy to the inauguration of the Jumpong Croc Cruise concept back in the 1980's when old Stefan started his tours. He was then bought out by a consortium and that company was bought out by a sole operator who has been running the tours and developing the industry ever since. The past few years more operators have come on board to offer similar tours.

Personally I do not think its a good idea to mess around with crocs in the wild but the industry has done it safely for 25 years. You are safe on board one of the tour boats but mucking about in your own tinny could be a tad hazardous. Still, lots of locals muck about on the Adelaide, South Alligator and East Alligator Rivers and rivers inbetween in their small boats.

Keep safe on the river and be careful and get out of the way of big crocs!!!

Cheers

went on one of them. The guide was stoked because we came accross the 3 biggest ones on that sretch all with names 5m pluss. She explained the really big ones dont jump much but they still put up a show. including luring one out of the water to show its size.was worth the money to see some of the biggest oversized garden skinks aound

Goto Crocodilus park - they have jumping crocodiles there, amongst other things.
I did the jumping croc tour on the Adeliade river a couple of years ago and while it was ok, it wasn't any better than the park show.

I also did Crocodylus Park which we enjoyed a lot but this cruise was different as the crocs were in a natural environment (rather than seeing them piled on top of each other!) and we got to see them much closer than at the park.

We also got to see quite a few birds which Morgan also fed and were great to see swoop in for the food. Our girls even got to "drive" the boat which was an added bonus for them. :)
