We are first time would be caravan purchasers. We are looking to travel around australia for 12 months, going across the
Savannah Way etc, and have narrowed our choice of caravan down to 2 - A Galaxy van or a Lotus Sprint. As it's hard to get an unbiased point of view form the dealers - does anyone have any comments to make about either of these vans - good or bad - they may help us make our minds up?

Hi Kristi
Unfortunately I can't give you any info on either of the vans you are interested in as we have a Kedron but perhaps you could try posting this on the caravaners
forum. They are a wealth of van-related information.

Don't buy new - what you get may
well not suit you after trying it. A second hand van in really good order will sell without much loss, and you can then try a few before making the big plunge. Allow plenty of time before setting out to try the rig,
what to take etc. or your trip will be a drama.
Buying 2nd hand (privately) you can get a wealth of knowledge from the previous owner, as
well as know that any problems that might have occurrred have been ironed out.
Of course, the tougher ones are dearer.

Remember you get what you pay for. Cheaper vans are cheaper cause they are cheaper to make. Any quality van will do the job, you don't really have to go to the bush tracker or phoenix to enable you to travel on rough roads. Just take it easy and watch the
creek crossings, go through creeks at an angle to keep the bum from scraping the road.

A bit about the
Lotus van here from an owner pretty positive, the Galaxy seem to be pretty
well made, we considered one back in 2002 but got an Evernew with no regrets..

Hi again Kristi
Just came across this thread on the caravanners
forum about Lotus caravans - they sound pretty good. Good luck with whichever van you choose.
