Just returned from crossing Simpson. In one word – fantastic, both of us like it every bit. I took some photos and if you interested you can look at them here. Next big trip will be Flinders.

Nice photos Serg. I loved the moon shot.

Interesting autotune antenna placement- must give excellent reception.

Initially I have put it into more conventional place (where work light sits now), but been told by Barrett people that performance somewhat compromised if “waterline” of autotuner (where top and bottom joined together) lower then roof line. I am not going to use it each and every day – only during trips – so I can live with such awkward position. Reception is fantastic.

Hi photos look good that's the way i went waa ,knolls.
Amazing how the track changes from year to year last year the track over big red to the left was to steep, almost vertical on the last bit even to drive down it.
I only ever made one mistake
and that's when I thought I was wrong!

Welcome back Serg,
The photos are great. I really like the shot with the stars just before sunrise. What type of Camera are you using?

Mate, it DOES NOT matter as long as it DSLR. Most important part is lens. I am shooting with Pentax for many years and all photos been shoot by K10D. Moonrise and camel with Sigma 105/2.8 DG macro, flower paradise with Pentax 77/1.8 (IMHO best ever made by Pentax) early morning with Pentax 31/1.8 (another great lens from Pentax) and rest with Tokina 20-35/2.8 if memory serves me correctly.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply Serg,
I am just trying to learn a bit about digital photography. I am just changing over from film. Have had a normal carera(digital) for a while but am looking at digital slr bodies at the moment.

Two things to consider really. How you comfortable with camera – go into shop and handle them. Another bigger consideration is lens selection and upgradeability. “Big Two” – Canon and Nikon the best choices from lens coverage and upgradeability path, but both quite pricy. Canon shines in long tele while Nikon better in wide end (as usual with any generalization exceptions happens). Both have tendency to produce more zooms then primes. Pentax lenses can be difficult to get, but in my opinion they cost as least twice less then Canon ones for the same quality and what I especially like Pentax does quite a few very decent primes and I personally like primes more then zooms.

Yep, we where alone. I been a little uneasy to do it alone, but now I would recommend solo trip to anyone who have enough self-confidence and well prepared. In general difficulty and complexity of this trip greatly exaggerated. There were some dramas, biggest one was squashed exhaust (again!), thus now I am putting stiffest available springs on the back. But nothing serious.
