Been a bit slack but got back from the GVD a fortnight ago after 16 days of fun in the sun. Basically from
Perth to Kal then
Laverton, down the AB to the
Cleared Line north into the spinifex for 6 days out onto the Connie Sue, up the Parallel Rd 2 to the GCR and back to civilisation.
The White Cliffe Rd was in the main good until it hit the
White Cliffs Yamarna Rd then it turned to bleep e. Deep corrugations and soft corrugated sand. The AB was pretty bad in
places as
well but nowhere near as bad as the Connie Sue which in the bit we travelled was very bad and had some nasty wash aways.
BTW there is no longer access into Skipper
Creek if you ain't a local. Permit or not.
The Parallel Rd 2 was a dream to drive and had some great scenery. The GCR was like a race track and some of the best gravel road I've ever driven. I can only comment from the
intersection of the Paraellel rd 2 which is about 80km from Tjukayirla RH.
Fuel back then at the Road house was $2.10 for Opal & $2.50 for Diesel.
All in all the trip from Kal to Kal was about 1800K I used 375 Litres of ULP and some days I was getting about 3km/L problem you get with a V6 travelling at 10Km per hr in High range and sometimes kicking out 2500 RPM. mm the sand was at times soft.
Posted some photos up to about day 6 in my profile page and on my
Putfilesite I've got up to day 11. Bloody site ain't working properly otherwise I'd have the lot. Also written up a major report up to the end of day 6 on my
my blog

You're not wrong Stephen, it's one heck of a big place and standing on some of those plateaus
well and truly proved it.

Thanks Richard. Notice that your avatar is Bishop Riley's Pulpit. Picture means more to me now that I have now been there as
well. Great view from the top.

Having a read of your blog you maybe right
"After morning tea we hit the corrugations again after a short drive the convoy halted to take photos of Pulpit
Hill. Pulpit
Hill is a mesa type formation that dominates the scenery for awhile."

Hi Duncs,
I've been looking at a few of your pics. Sounds like you had a good trip -
well done. Looks like you had some expert help at hand if things went belly up.
Cheers
Alan

Hi Alan, yes we had good asistance which is to be expected when you do a Tag-along. Fortunately we had Ian
Elliott as the historian, a botonist who has been on a number of our trips, + Nick Underwood from Western 4wd Mag & Ray Harris from Eureka 4wd Training. Nick & Ray run Campfire Escapes between them.
The other members of the trip were all seasoned bush travellers as
well.
All in all an excellent trip. Amazing how fast 16 days goes.

Hi Phil most definately. I'll most probably do like I did on our
Kimberley trip and turn it into a diarised booklet. Cut photos in, fully index and then print it off. Sounds a bit anal but it gives me something to do at nights.
Very frustrating that the website I store my photos on is having problems.

Geez Duncan,
you were a bit slow puttiing this trip on the
forum. I expected to see it the day after you got back. :)

You'd be spew'n missing the trip. How was the land of the long white cloud? Bet we had warmer and dryer weather? Not to mention flatter and not as winding roads
