We are planning on travelling from Qld to SA soon, and intend to take the
Bourke -
Wilcannia road along the Darling, before heading through
Broken Hill and onto
Adelaide. Can tell me where precisely the quarantine check points are? I know that there is one down towards
Peterborough, where precisely is it? Are you only checked heading south? or north as
well? Is it a border check or a fruit fly check point? Thank you.
PS Any good
camping spots on the
Bourke -
Wilcannia road??

Just thought I should say that we are NOT trying to dodge the quarantine regs!! We are just doing a very pressure cooked trip - we only have two days MAX to get from the Sunshine Coast to
Adelaide, and the same back again, and we've only one driver. we just want to plan the meals etc so that we don't have to waste food or time. Also so that if we have to expect to stop then we can plan that into the trip too.

All the info you require can be found here.
Primary Industries - SA
You will travel through the Oodla Wirra roadblock coming from
Broken Hill. Its almost at
Peterborough (bout 20km from memory).
Have a nice trip & help keep SA Fruit Fly Free
(No, I'm not a fruit fly, thats my cousin) lol.

None of these "check points" were manned when we traveled there a few weeks ago.

None of the fruit fly check points were manned when we came through the
Hay Plains,
Moulamein,
Swan Hill, western VIC, Bordertown etc etc, to
Adelaide in the end of June. (I can't remember exactly where they were.)

most entry into areas are not manned but there is plenty of warnings of prohibited zones and disposal
bins prior....so be warned......dont get caught with it...heavy fines can be applied
(if one attempts to run the gaunlet lets hope they get caught....and this is not just for SA...i know Vic has and NSW (i think) have restricted zones also)

They do spot checks on vehicles driving between
Yunta and the border from time to time...

$2500 fine. I used to work for Primary Industries SA. Amazing how often we heard of instances where travelers got aggressive over a couple of apples.
I think Oodla Wirra was manned when we went past on our way to the
hill last September and
Pinnaroo was when we came back through last October.
