Probably not many on here need this, but if friends are heading into the snow roads well its been pretty bleak for a few days.

Brother pulled a Kluger out, kilometers from any help on dusk
on the Blue range road.
WA Tourist was in rented car (told it was capable 4wd).
Standard tyres , no snatch snatch strap, no chains.
No food and not even an excess of warm clothes for the baby with them.

No hope when he finally realised he was in trouble and tried to turn around slipping into gully.

G'day Robin
Presumably he knew he'd be travelling over snowy roads so surely this guy should have had enough sense to make sure he had the correct gear. Some people just ask for trouble!
Mind you going by some of the questions posted on this site there are obviously lots who have no idea when travelling away from civilization - but at least they've asked. It's those that don't ask that will probably become statistics.
Cheers from the Moose

I don't think you can presume or assume anything anymore??

People seem to think that if its a 4wd it can go anywhere and if its a road on a map its drivable??

Seemed to be a case of "just a little bit further dad" , then road took shallow downward slope.
Still could have reversed out along own wheel tracks until road flattened, but as soon as he turned across road it was all over.

Extraction took quite a while, as tow vehicle wasn't easy to position such that it wouldn't get stuck itself.
During which it got dark and people got a little worried and the grizzles set in.

No real drama's , just one of those constant little help outs that should teach a lesson and be positive for 4wds.

Robin, I remember a past member, and now occasional contributer who did the same. I know it wasn't snowy and the dangers weren't as great potentially but .....

He couldn't reverse up the slope with a 4x4 that actually was a 4x2. He let some pressure out and was reversing up but his daughter stepped into the path to take a photo and wasn't able to get up again after stopping. I think in that case the extraction cost close to $1000 so the one

I hear ya. I was up on Tamboritha Rd on Sunday, snowing while we there, absolutely lovely. There was a bloke skating back out very slowly in a Holden Astra. He was between Tamboritha Saddle and Lost Plain for those that know the area.
