Paul,
Here's a thought..... follow the Old Grafton Stock Route (AKA Old Grafton Rd) from Grafton to the old town of Dalmorton. Turn left over the causeway and about 1 k along the track is a national park campground. Very nice place! And easy to get to.... Further west is the Mann River Nature Reserve, also a nice camping area. Others include the Jacadgery Camp area, but really this part of NSW is alive with National Park, all very nice!! Border Ranges is worth a visit, awesome views from the Pinnacle Lookout, and camping at Sheepstaion Creek.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Brian

If I told you on this site the great spots would get that crowded they would not be great any more.
If you head up that way just poke around and you will find some great spots.
That's what we used to do and we found some great spots.
One that comes to mind is point plumer we used spend many weeks there at Xmas every year and now you cant move there at Xmas time.
Just drive and explore and when you find that magic spot and you think to your self boy what a spot and then tell every one and then go back next year and its packed and you cant move you may see where I am cumming from.
If you do ever venture to the cape and you think to yourself how crowded it is same thing.
But come with us and go to some special spots and its no crowded then you will see what I mean.

All the best
Eric

PS Get out there and explore and see what you can find.

Hi Happycamper,
Here is a few suggestions, Nymboida national park ( turn keft off the Gywder highway comming form Grafton at a trucks turning sign) 1/2 hour or so drive on bush tracks to the Clarence river great swimming fishing no fees composting toilets hardly anyone there we always spend time over the Chrisssy hardly one there then, good canoeing we tend to camp in the camp groung as people reckon there is a few snakes on the river bank in summer but hubby thinks he camp on the river bank next year, Carnham bridge turn r off the Gwyder highwayon the Carnham road turn off camp down by the river bank good swimming, fishing canoeing etc. also if you turn at the same turn off Hanging Rock bridge, platypus flats, the junction, Alice which is on the road from Tabulum to Baryugl ( cant spell too many wines) on river bank, Toonunbar dam outside Kyogle. If you need any more send me an email the next two days as beeing away for a while

Red Rock, Pebbly Beach just north of there, Point Plomer is good, Woody head is great but expensive for a National Park Camp, black rocks, Wooli is a great spot also.
