I went through a few creeks and a mud patch a few weeks ago on a weekend jaunt.
When I got home I made a routine inspection of the car and noticed that there was
water in the bottom of the air filter box, about a teaspoon full. Enough to cause some problem in the diesel if it found it's way into the intake.
I traced the muddy
water back to 5 or 6 snap clips on the air filter box. These clips are in a direct line from the fan which throws
water on these clip holes. They are not big at all - say 6mm long x 1.5mm wide but apparently enough to let
water in. Not sure what is clipped to the air filter box but the concencus is it is a muffler of some sort to deaden the sound from the air filter. Quite a strange set up.
I have siliconed these slits up from the inside and outside to stop the
water ingress. All has worked so far.
Just a thought for those who have one, as this could be a major problem if you intend to go through any
water.
Cheers
Marco
