Hello AGAIN. I need to make a long range fuel
tank and i thought of making it out of galvanised steel. can anyone tell me if the galvanising lasts in a diesel environment. I know whats involved in welding/cutting it, but need to know of any details affecting fuel qualities. thanks

Hold all thoughts. I just read that galvanised steel reacts with some oils . so that idea is out the window.
( why don't i just think normal thoughts ?)

The aftermarket fuel
tank manufacturers mostly use steel that has an aluminium coating. It is available from a few specialty steel suppliers.

When I made
mine for the Patrol , I just used sheet mild steel and carefully drew it up so that it required minimum bending and painted outside only with kill rust - its all that was required.
Only real issue was to buy fuel grade rubber for the sender seal.

Regular mild steel gets a scale along the welded seams which can cause issues when it flakes off.
