Due to my wifes occupation we are a bit restricted on when we can take off for a holiday. At this stage we intend to travel from SE-SA to SW-WA in either the 3rd week in Sept. for 5 weeks all up, but could change that to the 3rd week in April 09 for the same period away if necessary.
We will at this stage driving our 80 series '97 multivalve turbo diesel Landcruiser towing a Coromal Seka 535 Pioneer XC tandem offroad van. When I say "at this stage", the only thing that may change is the tug as the kids reckon I should upgrade the 80.
I tell them "upgrade to what" cause she pulls economically with plenty of overtaking power if required and is fully equipped and as I only use it as a holiday vehicle it has only 90000 k's up just.
The oil is changed by the date not distance travelled.
When would be the best time to go, Sept. or April ?
Many thanks Nick

If everything else OK I would leave earlier. Who knows what happens later? Say SWMBO get pregnant and you will not be able to do it (LOL LOL). As for “upgrading” 90K truck – IMHO it is ridiculous and p1551ng money on the wind – it will only run-in in next 10 K.

Thanks Serg
The Mrs won't be in foal again, thats not gunna happen ever!!
Also I don't think I will be getting rid of the 80, as you say it's not run in yet and has never been offroad. Looks as though it's just come out of the show room.
Still would like to get an opinion which would be the best time to go West. Thanks Nick

My answer was honest – as earlier as you feel comfortable.

Good to hear you won't be getting rid of your 80. No need to sell her if there is no real gain.
She'll serve you
well.
Besides you'll find something else to spend the cash on.

The next time I go west it will definitely in the spring. It's not called the Wild Flower State for nothing. It is called that isn't it?

Hi Nickywoop, both times have their benefits, Spring time in the SW of WA is beautiful, the flora through out that area during Sept/ Oct has to be seen to be believed. The Stirlings (be prepared to spend some time there) are a picture of so many different colours as is the rest of that part of our State. the weather may be another story. April, the weather should be magnificent and the coastal areas to die for. So all in all either time would be great but me I would pick Sept/Oct for the trip.
Oh and the vehicle, why change if it is going great?????????????
My 10c worth.
Cheers

both dates are fine.
Did Margaret River(home) to Fitzgerald NP and back this April just gone and it was joy!!!! Although a lot of sotherly winds on
the beach, your in the thick of Salmon fishing season!!!
And as said above you can't beat Sept for wild flowers!!!
