After having the rear
tank removed from my prado to fit the LPG up I am wondering firstly what is the best way to rinse out and remove any fuel residue and how to store it to stop rust forming in the bottom of
tank. Eventually it will be fitted under the new off road trailer my cousin is building for me but until then it will have to be stored. I presume fill with
water to flush out any fuel vapours then I was going to whack in a bottle of metho to remove any moisture left but then what ?? Seal up totally inlets outlets etc or leave open to air/breath ?? Leave some metho in there ?? Will be stored in my shed for now. Tips appreciated. Regards Steve M

Stephen Im guessing its an unleaded
tank due to the gas conversion?
I would just empty the
tank and seal up the lines and filler and leave it at that.
Has the bottom of the
tank been damaged...ie impacted with rocks and dented at all? If so then I would look at sloshing a preservative around to prevent rust but otherwise they are coated from new.
The lacquer coating is pretty hardy but denting the underside will crack the coating and then rust can permeate.
Your trailer sounds interesting!!
Love to see some pics or a write up on it as it happens!!
All the best
Matt.

Yeah Matt, unleaded. No it has not been dented in any way. The actual guard that sits under it I have scraped a few times but have never come down on it hard. Will probably make up a new heavier duty guard once mounted to trailer. He hasn't started yet in the process of drawing up for axle, springs, position of
tank etc. Cant push him, he's doing for me as a love job (family) but will give him his favourite ale when all done. Hence while the
tank might be stored for a few months. Costing me 1/2 what it would have if I had just gone and bought one off the floor. Thats his profession not worried about his quality of work as he's very fussy when he has made other things (hope he's as fussy with
mine LOL). Regards Steve M

I would empty it & then put in a couple of litres of diesel, slosh it around & leave it in there.

Yes, just close it up & leave.
When you want to re-commission it, just empty out the diesel.
