Went to see a guy Monday to see about getting my extractors fitted. On the phone he said "yeah come over & I'll take a look". So I went over after work and he said "yeah I can do it but my tube bender is away being repaired. Might not get it back till Saturday". So yesterday I rang another bloke. He said "I can do it tomorrow". Great, I'll be there at 1. So today I knocked off work and drove 25 minutes only for the guy to say "I won't be able to do it today".

So I went to get some brake pads and asked the guy "who's the best for exhausts around here". He directed me to a guy about 15 minutes away. So now its booked in for Monday.

I hope its all been worth the effort. Here's a question to ponder - flanged joint or slip joint on the extractor to pipe joint?

Flanged. Much easier to get off when removing the gearbox or when in need of repair/replacement.

Depends which way the slip Joint will go.

If the Collector pipe from the extractors feed inside the Exhaust pipe Cool, But it the Exhaust feeds into the collector, Uncool as you will have created a restriction and turbulent gas flow.

Well, the guy its booked in with now recommended a slip joint. His reasoning was that the flanged joint is likely to get damaged when off road. Makes sense. Although I agree, flanged joint makes for quick and easy repairs and mods. Had this on my Chevy years ago - 10 minutes to remove dual exhaust and bolt up a couple of 4 inch outlets for the drags. (Killer sound too!)

Think I will go with the slip joint arrangement. Then later I will get the rest of the original system changed to a 2 1/2" system through a sports muffler, all running down the right hand side and coming out just after the RH rear wheel to minimise the bends.

Had the flanged joint on mine. Did 300,000k since new with the extractors (Genie) and never had an issue and did some pretty hard off road stuff. I had 2 n 1/2 all the way through. You will notice the difference. Check the engine mounts are also ok as my mates hilux had a dicky mount and when you revved the motor it flexed to much due to the mount broken and cracked his extractors. Took a while to work why the hell they cracked 3 times. He was ready to rip them off untill we found it. Regards Steve M
