4x 50W would be your best option. You could get away with around $1400 + a good LCD regulator $150

Check out the police auctions, they quite often get good solar gear from drug busts solar powered pumps to water dope crops !!!

Lots of hydroponics gear as well :-)

I spent awhile looking for best price on a BP 80W recently. Finally settled on Energy Matters as they advertised the best price .. only to find on purchasing that their prices weren't quoted with GST included. Brought their price back up to everyone elses. Hence i found that everyone seemed to have very similar prices. PS: I didn't find that Energy Matters were particularly useful on answering any of my questions

Drew,

Been checking out the Energy Matters web site (www.energymatters.com.au) for 2 years now ... it has always stated price includes GST at the bottom of the page. My invoice also clearly states GST is included. Maybe someone made an error processing your invoice in which case you could probably get a refund.

I have a 140W folding kit from Energy Matters, seems pretty straight forward to me, you have you clamp it to your batteries and face the panels towards the sun.

I'll second thatMax. You had me worried for a second Drew as I have decided to get 2 x 85W panels from them and I double checked that the prices are GST inc.

Also I have found them to be very helpful and informative.

I don`t know about best prices or from where. But I do definitely recommend that you check the details of the "Unisolar " brand against other makes.
Unisolar work in part shade, although at reduced output, are nearly unbreakable, not glass covered etc. etc.
It will take a bit of research( Google Solar Panel ) to check most of the brands but you will at least know what you are buying, there is so much that is not said by people selling a particular brand or type that I think is important to the buyer.
I have no connection to any particular brand name.
There is possibly other brands with similar benefits, just that this Unisolar had the ones that I wanted.

If you need some idea of individual solar panel efficiency compare these relevant numbers.
The answers (far right) are the (maximum) Amps produced per square Mtr of each of the Solar panels total surface area.

Unisolar 64 Watt, per Square Mtr = 3.8 Amp ( LEAST efficient )

BP 80 Watt, per Square Mtr = 6.8 Amp ( average efficiency )

Sharp 123 Watt, per Square Mtr = 7.3 Amp ( MOST efficient )

When they are costed per *maximum* Amp produced (all sourced from solaronline) the relevant “per maximum amp” prices are as shown below.

Lowest price of the three . . BP = $108
Middle price of the three . . Sharp = $135
Highest price of the three . . Unisolar = $171

However when you take into account which panel gives more Amps per DAY (total amps - not maximum amps) into the equation the results are even more startling.

What is an Oz

That is most definitely not the Panels I bought. The Bloke I bought my panels from really knows what he's talking about and as I said he had the best prices I could find anywhere.

Cheers John

John,

Ozii is a dodgy trader who peddles his wares on internet sites.

He got banned here ages ago. So much so that the word

L A N D L I N E (I have to post it with spaces to stop it being deleted) was banned here.

For any further information, call me on 03 9706 6527. One has to be careful about one puts in writing.

Noldi,
look at a "genuine" SHARP 24 Volt solar panel

Bypass diodes minimise power drop caused by shade.

I have been researching panels for 240 grid connect and have found some really good prices, but on further investigation found they where made in China. After more searching found the China products loose their efficiency very quickly due to the quality of the solder, some of the losses are up to 60% over 5 years. Some of the best have been the sharp and kyrocera brands, but of course the price is higher. Col

will you please name the panels that are NOT made in China and obviously state where they are made of course, because that will be of some assistance to Noldi in the search for a 24v Solar panel.

I was told by 2 sellers the kyrocera is made in the states. The sharp i dont know, but have been told they are up there with the best. Have also found the internet based companys selling for 240v grid set up are all selling cheap china made pannels to get the sales, by going to local suppliers i got a lot more information that wasnt based on getting sales. The $8000 rebate is also a funny one as there are only about 6000 rebates australia wide to be had and apparrantly thats the end of the scheme. The govt is trying to get people to set up business by buying roof space and setting up pannels and selling back the power generated to the grid, sounds fesable but the price of quality pannels needs to come down alot. I also looked into wind turbines which i found generate more power for a smaller out lay, but you need big open areas with no trees for turbine reliability. The turbines are not able to be used in the rebate scheme, which is plain stupidity. I dont understand how the carbon trading is going to resolve much, as its to easy to buy through the scheme and then charge the customers. Col

kiwicol,
Also looking at 240v Sola, by far best price is a China made mono crystaline unit made for a German company with outlets in Oz.

Their 25 year warranty is to repair or replace the unit if output drops less than 80%. Ditto 90% in 12 years.

Have not seen the same detailed warranty write up in other offerings.

Appears very reasonable.

Appreciate your comments

Peter
