hello there all hf radio gurus. i am looking at a 9323 codan but cant seem to find a reason why there should be a TXE model when you can just short out the link on the pcb and have free programming anyway. maybe i am overlooking something.

They never made the 9323 with that option, you could do it with the 85 and I believe the NGT.

With the mod you are talking about you have to program the frequency you want to use into the memory so it makes it hard.

With the others they have a free tune option meaning were ever you tune the radio you can transmit with out putting the frequency into the memory.

You can get an updated chip for the 9323 for full frequency transmit but it is still messy and the mode setting is a pain in the #$*!

This is one of the reasons we went away from the 9323's we had and went to Icom IC-F7000's, you can use them like an amateur radio.

I beg to differ, I have a Codan 9323 with factory fitted TxE option. TxE is shown on the options screen when scrolling through the settings.

Some of the early versions of the 9323 could not be programmed for TX by shorting a link on the PCB.I know because I owned one with an early firmware version and couldn't enable many features available on later versions.
