G'day,
after nearly 20 yrs for the company, i gave the corporate world the flick this week and resigned. i used to work for australia and australians, now it is only greed. i will now be focussing myself on urban bushland restoration, as not only do i consider it so important, but it strikes the right balance for my family situation.
health and family are too important to compromise.
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Good 'onya mate!
The only thing I really missed when I left corporate life was paying for my own mobile phone calls, and paying full price for petrol.
Mind you, with the way that super funds are performing lately we may all be back at work....

"Mind you, with the way that super funds are performing lately we may all be back at work...."
It's looking that way isn't it???????????????? but then when has it been easy for self funded retirees?
Cheers

Hope you're not living of fresh air? Otherwise makes perfect sense! Made redundant myself 11 years ago and it was the best thing that happened to me. All the best

Sometimes a man just has to do what a man's gotta do. It's a big decision, but good on you for having the courage to expand your horizons.
All the very best Jeremy, to you and your family. The Pilliga awaits you :-)))

Yep, after nearly 38 years, they made me redundant, I mean super AND a lump sum.
Geez, I cried crocodile tears LOL!
Had nearly 8 yrs of bliss since. And no, I don't get bored.
Actually even better since the tax breaks for self-funded retirees started coming in at 60 instead of 65.
Sometimes I get the urge to go back to work, but then I take a lie down and the urge soon passes....

G'day Gerry!
well, no lumpy bits for a resignation but plenty of bumpy bits on the way though.....
bit of a ways to get before retirement though.
your info last year is still burning and has me yearning for more of the tracks in SE WA.
thanks mate.

Congratulations Bushfix enjoy your days from now on in.
Thanks joc45. I thought I was the odd man out. Retired at 55 which was 6 years ago and self manage my/our super fund. Never been better off since July 1 2007 when all the tax breaks for self funded retirees kicked in.
Our fund lis argely in cash since the sub prime storm clouds loomed a year ago. Our cash is currently earning 8.7% for minimum of 12 months, interest is/can be paid monthly.
Anyone with investment cash above 20k should Google check out this site . Anyone can invest with this CU and it is a good one.
Regards

Good on you!! & my feeling is you will not regret it. It's 12 years since I was in the corporate world with all it's unnecessary, mind games & BS.
My only regret is that I was 53 at the time & I bloody wish it had of happened when I was 23!!
If your new career is focused on what you ENJOY doing, rather than what you HAVE to do, then you will not only gain a great deal of satisfaction, you will be successful in your chosen path.
Good luck to you & your family.
