Poor bugger , copping heaps of flak because oil price have plunged but fuel prices stagnate at higher end or just trickling lower , lame duck , inefficient , about as handy as ACCC .

And why shouldn't they resign? We've all had to resign ourselves to the price of fuel :(((

I think you may find he has resigned for very serious private family matters that will not be commented on at this stage out of respect for him and his family at this difficult time.

So did Bracks, just prior to taking an overseas posting. And just about any other politician you care to mention.

I feel sorry for anyone who resigns from any job for legitimate family reasons now. Politicians have made it the least honest reason they can plausibly give for getting out when the heat gets too hot in the kitchen.

I'm not suggesting that's the case here, but it's how most of the population will suspect it.

Yeah Beattie resigned in Qld for health reasons so he could go to America to an already arranged job. Me thinks his health reason was the state of the Qld Health Department.

From the Herald Sun Web Site.

"Mr Walker was appointed as the nation's first petrol commissioner in February as part of the Rudd Government's pre-election commitment to promote competition and transparency in the petrol market.

His responsibility is to oversee the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's monitoring of fuel prices.

Mr Walker would continue to hold petrol retailers and the oil companies to account until his resignation took effect, Mr Bowen said."

Not hard to guess why he resigned and I don't believe for one minute the personal reasons to be associated with anything outside of the job.

He's going back to Perth, a 6 hour plane trip away. To be head of some Govt mob for aboriginies.
Not many of us have that sort of luxuary during times of serious family illnesses !

And given the fact that he's leaving a taxpayer funded job to go back to another taxpayer funded job, I can't see any reason why his resignation shouldn't be the cause of some scepticism by those taxpayers.
"When you takes the king's schilling" etc

I'm truly sorry if someone close to him is seriously ill.

But the prices at the pump are making quite a few of us financially unwell. It's not unreasonable to wonder at the cause of such actions by such a high profile appointee.

Perhaps its as simple as not being able to live up to the populist political rhetoric of the person who appointed him??

I guess thats enough to make any sick.

I have no doubt the family reasons are genuine and wish him and his family well.....but,

Maybe another motivator is that he realises how futile FuelWatch really is, best not to be tarred with it.... ;)

Good weekend to all......

Perhaps the oil companies have arranged a visit from the heavies.

Perhaps Landy??

But wasn't this man the one and same who ran the Fuel Watch Program in WA so was already aware of the futility of the approach?

Yawn.

Same old perlexed drivel.

And you quoted from The Sun Herald Tabloid. That alone does your credibility no favours.

Jim.

Without a shread of evidence to support your claim, you have called this man a liar on a public forum.

And you expect me to add to that?

I did add something of value up the page. See if you can work it out.

Jim.
