Hi all,
I have a
uhf radio and antenna that has snapped at the base. The antenna is about 8-10 inches long and is mounted to a hole drilled in the roof rack and goes through a hole in the roof rack. I bought a new one from the West Australia people. Great service. BUT the new one comes with the cable and plug etc attached the plug is soldered on. How do I fit it to my roofrack mount and thread the cable through. THere is a nut on the base but it only for attaching the antenna to the mount. Will I have to cut the cabe and re solder??????
Thanks in advance.
Steve

Hi Steve
If it is a bracket on the rack, you could cut a slot in it, otherwise you will need remove and refit the plug.

Well, if you do not like to cut and re-solder cable – easy and preferable option because you can easier put connectornless cable through all small holes – you certainly can extend your mounting hole to slot.

you will probably find the plug is crimped on not solderred. the antenna and cable are tuned to that length,so,if you have to remove the plug then do so without wasting too much coax cable. resolder and call it quits at that...
