My daughter just had her Hilux IFS serviced. The mechanic has noticed movement/wear at the hubs when moving the axle. This explanaitin given over the phone, I didn't actually see it. He said it's not the CV's or bearings. Must be the bearings, what else could it be? There's no noise in the CV's.

Depends if it's side to side movement or in and out movement and how much movement there is.

Would not be the CV's as they have nothing to do with the hub regarding locating, either the carrier is warm or the bearings.

You would expect some vibration and noise.

Unless he is talking about warn tie rods, steering rack or bushes.

Tie rods etc OK. I'll get the bearings checked after I've had a look at it. Hope it's not wear in the hub where the bearing sits.

Very very much doubt the hub would be warn, if the hub wears it is usually something to do with the bearing like wrong bearing type -tapper or parallel, size.

If tappered the bearing cone would protect the hub.

If it was any of the above you would know about it.

Still has original bearings. Packed and greased again about 10,000km ago. Maybe they're not tightened up enough and/or worn a bit.

What year hilux? The earlier models had a problem with the R/H side diff flange (bearing flogged out the housing) where the driveshaft connected. Maybe he is talking about that.
