Hi,

I'm new to this site posting but often read. I have a '99 hundred series cruiser gxl just had a turbo fitted but have noticed a knock at around 2000 - 2200 rpm even in neutral under no load. Definately worse since turbo been fitted but not sure if tied in together. Noise is definately coming from bottom of engine bay, have checked with my wife holding revs at 2000 seems to be coming from sump. Exaust seems ok ( brand new with turbo ). Just chasing opinions if my suspicions might be right of Big end bearing?? done 190000kms. Do you think turbo could have affected?? I know they really peak them out on Dyno while testing as a watched. Also if it is Bearings whats involved in repairing as in cost??

thanks very much for any replies in advance.

Rowen

How long has turbo been on there.

Some of these engines do sound a little "bearingy" and i would see how it goes or otherwise have a new set of bearings put in.

Maybe there was an underlying problem before that has now come to light, i would see how it goes.

Hi Rowen. If it was me I would try to have an experienced 4wd/diesel mechanic or even a Toyota dealer take a listen to your engine. If it is bearing noise it can lead to serious crankshaft damage and ultimately engine failure. If you check TD100's posts recently you can see what can happen with major problems. Good luck. Bob.

Ditto. If you suspect bearing noise get it seen to.

Hi Rowen, I also had a turbo fitted to my 1HZ recently, it had
240000 at time of fitment and I had the big end bearings replaced during the turbo fitment. Previous to the fitment I had a similar noise to what you describe and it seems to have mellowed a fair bit since the bearing change. I dont know if this will help you but I guess its good insurance for a relatively small cost. Good luck, and how good is a 1HZ after turbo!!!!!!!!!!
