JB Hi Fi gave me a take it or leave it price (the ticket price) on the above screen $369 and the Viscom camera/cable VS2203N $189. Another section/sales person at JB gave me a good deal on a Tom Tom 720 at $527,throwing in a carry pouch, I will probably take up.

I would rather get the Viscom 7" Reversing Screen/camera even thou the camera cable is going to be far to short to link up a Landcruiser and the rear of a 21'6" van.

DO YOU KNOW OF ANY OTHER OUTLETS FOR VISCOM GEAR? failing this I could go to another JB store for a better deal not sure though they are like Harvey Norman stores in Adelaide who will compete against each other for your business.

I can appreciate their attitude of not giving their lowest price, which in turn could be beaten by another store, they want me to get my other stores(If I know one) lowest price for them to beat it.

Note JB have a 6" Screen and camera (another make) for $399 that I am not considering.

Peter.

Hi PeteIinSA,

Don't know anything about JB Hi FI or their prices.

I purchased my roof mounted drop down screen (7") from a trader on Ebay for about $250 some time ago. It came with a DIN sized DVD player for that price.

Roof mounted screen is in 80 series now and the DVD player I fitted into the van.

I bought the 2 reverse cameras from 95Soarer, another Ebay trader, for around $50 dollars each. One for the 80ser and the other for the Van.

For the Video cable I used a good quality TV aerial cable (Quad Shield) to run through the 80 ser and also the van.
I used good quality F type connectors for all the connections and the whole system works perfectly.

No need to spend big bucks on cables and if JB don't want to deal try Ebay. I have not seen the type of monitor I bought since on Ebay but there are others of similar quality though they do not have the DVD player included.

Hope this is of some help.

Should add that the daylight/infra red cameras are now selling from 95Soarer on Ebay for around $25 each and are reasonable quality.

Being infra red they work well in no light or low light as well as daylight.
Cheers,
Gazal.

Went to another JB Hi Store got a great offer on the above equipment at a huge discount from a friendly and obliging Sales person. Bought the screen and a dearer ccd camera. I will compare the ccd camera with a mates Cmos.

Gazal,
Thanks for your comments, we use an ipod now rather than DVD's to cut down on the clutter, we seem to have so much gear in the LC.

The Viscom 7" screen will fit over the existing rear vision mirror and can be used as a normal mirror when not towing.

Am not getting a 2nd camera for the tow ball, as the wife does a good job at directng me during the Hook up (she says). It just my reversing that's not up to speed.

Can say with experience that a rear vision mirror screen is not good.

Most of them are not bright enuf to overcome their prime use of being a mirror.

I have one and have gone back to a small screen on the dash.

I found that the reflection in it hazed out the camera picture badlly.

Also found that infra red cameras were no good in direct bright sunlight.

I bought a Swann( a reputable brand) and it faded out to a light brown with no colour at all when mounted on the back of the van.

Went back to the ones sold by 95 Soarer which are quite good especially at that price as I apid $49 for mine. A similar Polaris one is $170.
For cable I used some RCA Hi Fi cabling I had and ran it thru the van chassis rail and then up under the plastic insert in the edge sealing at the back of the van.

This stuff has sealed ends so is fairly rugged and waterproof. I still have some 10 meter lengths of it if you are interested.

Its also easy to make some patch cables if the screen has different connectors.

Have added some pics of setup.

The larger screen is my Copilot navigation that runs off a laptop
