Hi All,
I am after some feed back on pros and cons about this vehicle, I read earlier about some fuel economy issues and a front diff problem should that be a concern.
It will be a family car (wife, 2 small kids under 5) used for general 4WD around WA and towing a camper trailer.
I am looking at buying a Navara STX T/D Auto 06 it has a range of options on it which include ARB bull bar with side rails and steps, rear bar/tow bar, factory
snorkel , long range
tank, tray liner, hard torno, it has done 40000 Klms, running 265/75/16 tyres 3 of which require replacing, I think they have been swapted. Would you say $44000 is a good price?
About the tyres would changing to Coopers or Mickey T’s be a good choice in the same size or different size be a better option.
Any information would be great good or bad would be great.
Cheers

Hi,
I have had my Navara for a little over 2 years (06 model). I find it very comfortable (Although have had to replace the front
seat due to sag). Engine is powerful enough and is rather economical, sometimes 10.3l to the hundred unladen.
It is a very capable 4wd stock standard. A set of rear springs would be nice as even when new the rear springs have a an unhappy look ( and numerous times when I have loaded it up the bump stops are touching.
The only problem I have found is it has spent more time in the workshop than I would have liked.
Oh I forgot to mention another small problem, There is seven cracks in the chassis, 2 cracks in the body, the radiator support is cracked and I am on to my third bullbar as all of them have cracked too, even the latest one that is on the car. Have been quoted 7000 to repair as Nissan will not warrant it.
I would recomend you stay clear of a Navara.
Peter

Shane,
I'd give the V6 some serious consideration.
I fitted drawers to two of them last week and the owners just love the power, 200 kW.
Considering in WA you get a $3000 rebate on LPG, it would be cheaper to run than the TD and perform a lot better.
Disclaimer: LPG may have limited availiblity and/or be expensive in remote
places.
Jim.

Shain, I got rid of my 07 D40 diesel auto after 5000kms.
After reading lots of Aust forums and UK and USA Navara forums, I,m glad I did.
Lots of complaints re fuel economy( my main problem) ,chassis bending, soft brakes, weak diffs, speedo inacuracies(for me also)really bad turning circle , and woeful Nissan support.
I sent my customer satisfaction form back with more info re my experiences, and they didn't even bother to reply or research more.
It has made me even more determined to warn others about this model , and Nissan's lack of support.

Considering the negative comments, I assume they all refer to the later ST-X and are very concerning. I have had the ST-R TD now since new in Sep 2003 and have had only one minor problem with a blown gasket on the EGR pipe. I have just completed a 15000K trip to Tasmania and Queensland towing a van with the only problem being the blown gasket. The vehicle has just turned over 100,000K and is on Diesel Gas returning an average of 14 Ltr/100K towing a 20 Ft van not too bad I think. I will be probably put her on the market in the next couple of months as I like to upgrade around 100,000K to keep up my equity. That's my experience with the Navara for what its worth.
Regards Nav.

Shain I cannot speak of the market situation in WA, but it does seem dear to me. In NSW their would be one buyer for every ten 4wds for sale. This has come about due to fuel prices, and soccer mums wanting to get out of 4wds and into something smaller and more econimical. The upshot of this is their will be a lot of bargains arround.
Cheers Pete

Shain,
Albany WA dealer had my D40 (auto, abs, cruise control,ARB bullbar,Riese t/bar,tint, h/duty mats, 5000kms ,as brand new,) for $40,000 negotiable .($38000 or less ?) to give you an idea of values.
I worked out that I could save around $5000 over 3 yrs in reduced fuel usage , which is very conservative on the figures I'm getting now on new 3lt t/diesel dual cab.
Go for a manual if you must go Navara.D40

Sounds very expensive to me
New prices are
Navara ST-X 4x4 4.0 litre V6 manual $44,720
Navara ST-X 4x4 2.5 litre common rail turbo diesel manual $46,660
You should be able to get some extras thrown in, in this climate of high fuel prices.
Straight from the nissan website.
$44000 for a 2 year old one one is rediculous. And you are up for a set of tyres ($1200 approx)
Have you looked at the rereleased D22 Model. Has proven itself over 6 years and is $10000 cheaper, brand new!
