Corny,
Depending on what you are travelling in, (2wd/4wd, tent, campertrailer, caravan, campervan, mobile home or big winnebago), there are plenty of options to choose from.
From my previous experience with my caravan, Munglinup Beach, Stokes Inlet, Hopetoun, Bremer Bay and Cheynes Beach are all worth a day or more. If you are tenting/campertrailering there are many other options within that strip of coast (campsites within Nat parks etc) that I can't get to with the van.

There are a couple of good books, "Free Camping in SW of WA" is one) that are available from this site and possibly at any Tourist Visitor Centre that will give you heaps more info than I can.

If all else fails remember that Google is your friend too.

Good Luck

Disco.

Hi Corny,
Magic time of the year, as the wildflowers along that route are at their best. Bear in mind that Hopetoun is at present inundated with workers from the mine near Ravensthorpe and facilities are stretched to their limits.
From Esperance to Hopetoun, there are quite a few beachside campsites, and if you have a 4wd, I would really recommend Quoin Head, about 20km west of Hopetoun. Steep shaley track into the campsite, but truly magnificent. There is also a good CALM campsite just a couple of k's west of Hopetoun at the foot of East Mt Barren.
Further west, south of Jerramungup, I recommend Pt Anne on the coast. Also the mouth of the Fitzgerald River has a camping spot, albeit back a bit from the beach.
Bremer Bay has a good campsite, and west of Bremer Bay is Beaufort Inlet (Pallinup River) which has some nice camping on the water's edge amongst paperbark trees.
All these places have no fresh water, I recall.
Drop me a line on gezza90 at amnet dot net dot au and I can send some waypoints for most of that south coast for OziExplorer.
cheers,
Gerry

Fitzjerald NP at the inlet camp ground.plenty of protection about 500m back from the beach. nice long stretch of beach, good fishing and when I was there in April surf was pumping, km's of beachies. oneImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be Found thing that was a bit sketchy was it was salmon season and the Ranger told me I was nuts as he had seen big pointers swimming in the shallows a few days before. Hence I only went fishing after that conversation! tell the Ranger your out thereImage Could Not Be Found as it is pretty secluded.

corny,

think the lowest I had my pressures was 25 psi, just have to watch the tide with big swell as it gets up the beach pretty high.
drove about 2/3 around the bay as waves were a bit better up that way and was good driving all the way. the inlet corner where you come out onto the beach from the camp sight is the calmest and water is crystal clear. when crossing the inlet, drive as close to the ocean (on the beach ) as possible, pretty soft neear the river water edge!
the most trecherous is the track in. it is about 45k's from memory, basic level 4x4ing on the way in when it was dry, on the way out we had heavy rain all night and the next day when we left, it was a quagmire in spots and hairy to say the least. got to the end of the track and the Ranger had closed the road. don't want to put you off, but as I said go speak to the Ranger before heading out thier, he'll give you the low down on conditions and he will know your out there. it's worth it, the place is joy!
if you can't get out there, there are heaps of other spots in the Fitz NP, just not as secluded. there are mud maps at the information bays.

enjoy, Evan .........
