Does an '04 3ltr turbo Hilux have an adjustment on the fuel pump for richness? A mechanic told me it does, but if you adjust it the ECU readjusts for it. I would like to make it a bit leaner.

Twinkles, why ????. Why wouldn't you leave it set at what its set at if the vehicle is running fine, by adjusting some thing you know little about can/could cause major engine damage. Yes the computer does control the injection on the 1kz motor. But they still have a base setting. The only way to do properly is by a specialist with all the required gear. Personally I think you will cause yourself dramas in the long run by playing with it. If you are trying for more herbs then get a chip for it and/or an exhaust. ???? Regards Steve M

Hi Steve,
Not planning to fiddle with it myself. This is my second Hilux with this motor. Daughter has older one. This one uses more fuel. Wondered if it was worth getting diesel mechanic to look at it. Tried a chip, didn't work. Have gassed it. That improved diesel economy but have to add gas consumption as
well. Still trying to get adjustment correct. That's another story. Have a
Beaudesert exhaust on it as
well. I'm interested in improving economy. I was thinking it may overfuel.

Fair enough. Sorry the way I read it you were going to try yourself. Sounds like there is not much to do to try and use less fuel to what you have alreay tried. Not sure what figures your getting but my mate has the same lux actually two of them and on the freeway they are getting around the 8/9L per 100 around town seems to be pretty much on the 10 Per 100 and when we have been up
Stockton beach around the 11. Very little difference over all. Great motor and seem to pull really
well even towing. They seem just that little bit more ecomical then my old 2.8D lux was (heeeeeeps more go as
well LOL). If I pushed the old lux up around the 110k (pretty much foot flat to the board) I would
jump up to 11 per 100, around town pretty consistantly got 10 L per 100. I believe the same motor (1KZ) in the earlier 120 series prado's before the D4D ran higher figures. More in the 14's around town. The only thing I could put that down to is the weight of the 120 prado over the weight of the hilux. Regards Steve M

My old Lux was similar, probably not quite as good. The 04 is about 11.5 to 12 per 100 not towing, around town. Towing increases quite a bit. Stil working on the gas adjustment.
I think the fuel usage is within the acceptable parameters, but I was hoping to improve this.

I am interested to know your thoughts on the
Beaudesert exhaust system you have as i was thinking of getting one myself.
I have an 02 Hilux with a DP Chip good torque but no better fuel economy around 11-12 lts per 100.
Just had the injectors and timing belt done and got last
tank on freeway 10.8 Have done 103k

I didn't notice a dramatic change. Noticed the turbo sound more. Turbo seemed to come in earlier. When I put the chip in there was no difference. I sent photos of installation to distributor. It was done correctly. They sent another to be wired differently. Still didn't work. They would like to see vehicle but were too far from me. I got my money back. Something different about my vehicle.
