Ok im somewhat suprised - i just got the rego renewal for my Jayco flamingo

Registration fee = $52.00 ( no prob )
MOTOR vehicle tax = $187.00 ( what the ??? )

now correct me if i am wrong -- but my jayco is not a MOTOR VEHICLE - not unless someone droped a 350 chev in it without me knowing ????? it would be classed as a Trailer....

rego total for the car is the same for the caravan -- is this correct ?????

Sounds like you live in NSW,

The tax is related to the weight of the van.

I have a 2 tonne van and it costs me around 350.00.

Victoria it would be about 50.00

The only thing to do is get to pension age and then it's free. YEEEHAAA.

The wife has the van in her name and I have the truck in mine. So next year we'll get em both for free.

So what response did you get from RTA when you asked for an explanation? You have checked with them haven't you? After all they 'might' have made a 'mistake'.

But the good news we got with our rego this year (NSW) is that up to five years of age there is no inspection required - that saves me $100 as we have been paying a mechanic an hour's labour to go out to the storage yard plus the $30 odd "inspection" fee. This year and the next - whoopee. Then it will be over 5 years old - drat.

Hi All,
In Adelaide (and it's about the only thing in this state they dont rip me off on), I just registered our Goldstream Camper after transferring it off QLD rego.
$59 for 12 months rego.
No annual inspections, and no Stamp Duty payable when I transferred it from QLD.
Got to be happy with that.

Cheers, Matt
