Just a thought/suggestion, when you hover the mouse over the open thread tab a pop up screen could appear with the first 5-10 lines of the thread.

This would save having to open up the page fully to see what it is about. for eg; the topic may read, "hot water systems" then the thread could either read what is the best brand or what sort of problems do people get with them?

I have asked Dave via the feedback page and am interested to hear what he has to say!

What do users of this forum think? would it be a useful tool to have on EO???

Cheers Luke

It might take all the fun out of creating a thread name to get everyones interest - also part of the interest is in the number of hits on the thread that would not then be registered

Hi Luke, yeah see where your coming from I have my email set up that way BUT its some times when you get further down the post that you can some times see some replys that give you a laugh or when the dissagrements start then it gets interesting. Also as Trekkie has said number of hits. Regards Steve M

Yes other forums have it and I find it very useful to quickly find out what the subject is about.

Perhaps David could give an option to turn it on or off so those who don't like it don't have to put up with it.

Cheers
Dick

I like the idea. I might not have to read so much ... about flags, goats or who's bringing the booze etc. :-))

If the idea worked, I wouldn't have read this thread.
Na, just kidding, sound like it could be good as an option. That would suit both sides of the argument.

If you don't open the thread then you don't see the adverising.
No advertising = no money = no forum

Good theory, unless you are talking about someone like me. I can view this forum all day and not see a single advert. I'm the same with newspapers and magazines....the ads might be there, but they don't register with me at all.

After reading your post I found myself purposely viewing the entire page to see if there were any adverts on it! I'm probably unusual with this trait, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Cheers

Russ

No Russ your not unusual!! I am the same (unless we both are lol) when it comes to advertising, unless I'm looking for something they have no impact usually.

I did the same as you, after reading robaks reply I went looking for advertisments

Depends on the day - some advertisers have booked on a day by day basis, some days there's tons on, others day's only a trickle, others days none. depends on what page you are viewing too. Ads can be on any page of the site. Always interesting to hear your viewpoints on this and all issues. Good discussion. Thanks

A great sugestion Luke but I doubt it will progress much further as this being a commericial site, it no doubt in part sells its advertising by the huge number of page views. As "People spent an average of 22 Seconds viewing a page." it's obvious this idea has merit as most would seem to open a page briefly only to find it is not what they thought then move on.
