I'm trying to figure out some designs for a complete/full length overhead roof "tray" for the Mazda which does not involve anything going through the canopy, but instead has supports bolted to the bumpers (if possible).
Does anyone have any pics of ones they have had made, or know where I could look/enquire about existing designs rather than re-invent the wheel again?
My intended uses are a roof-top tent and kayak carrier as well as general camping gear.
Cheers!

Sorry I can't help with designs/pictures etc, but I do know you need to be careful as the cabin and the tray move independently from one another. I would imagine it would need to be mounted from the chassis, so if the bumpers are mounted to the chassis in the same way a bullbar/towbar is then that should be OK.

Thanks Mark,
That is indeed one of the considerations I have to be aware of.

Hello Solo Girl, Well not much sense in mounting it on your bull bar given that you are prone to bending bull bars!! LOL
Anyway, cant help you with first hand expeirence but would it be worth while talking to the likes of ARB or any other roof rack supplier with the view of having your tray mounted on the the roof racks? Good luck & cheers.

We once made a full length roof rack on a troopy, supporting it by a full length side rail and the support bars coming up from the side rail bars, we found this to quite heavy but if you use Aluminium it may be lighter.

Cheers Steve.

Thanks Steve, have thought about that as well. I'm worried about the bulk of that idea as well as the weight...
