My new long range fuel tank has just been fitted to my 2008 Nissan Navara D40. Its a 160l from Opposite lock.

General Description
Navara 4WD Dual Cab D40 2006 On Model - 160 Lt Replacement Fuel Tank

Its a strange configuration with a top tank and a main bottom tank to which the fuel sender is fitted. The problem is we've done 360km probably at 12 l/100km (say 40 litre) so am unsure when does the fuel gauge start to move. More importantly what does the fuel gauge do when it is not connected, show full or empty.

any ideas?

Russell, i recently fitted a 160 ltr replacement tank in my 76 series cruiser. i had to bend and reshape the sender to fit the new tank i get roughly 700km out of the tank before the needle starts to move which is about 80 ltrs of fuel used (half tank) it is because the sender sits under the actual fuel level so once you have used a certain amount of fuel the guage starts to move.
once you have filled and used a couple of tanks you will get to know what sort of range and how many litres you have used before the needle starts moving.
cheers col

I have a 170L fitted to my Toyota HZJ105, also from OL.

Using the 170L tank, I can drive from Cairns to Mackay before the guage starts to move.

Russell ,

We all have the same problem , as they use the original sender in the new tank .

The way to go is to fill the tank , and then drive around the city until it goes down to FULL . then off to the servo and fill it again .
Deduct your fill from the capacity AND WRITE IT DOWN .

Repeat this process for THREE QUARTERS , HALF , QUARTER and EMPTY .

If you write it down and leave it in the car , it takes all the guess work out in the future .

Willie .

Problem solvered:

The tank was fitted by Opposite Lock through Nissan as a optional accessory.

60 litres and 440km and the needle finally points to full.

I'm ok with that, scanguage calibrated and programmed FTE (Fuel to empty) and DTE (distance toempty) and thats interesting.

Regards to all.
