If it's of any use, I've had a TX3400 for 3 years - I've had to resolder the speaker wire back on (done on the road with a 150W inverter and a $12 soldering iron!) - but it's held up great. Survived the Gibb and Kalumbaru roads - the corrugations on those are the ultimate product tests! I'm happy with the GME products.

I would also have a look at the Icom ic-440. I have used the TX3440 and it is a good unit but the Icom gear is generally a bit tougher. The mike on the ic-440 is based on a "command mike"
used for icom marine radios and should be pretty
well built.

I've just put a TX3440 in an LC200 - Works very
well - I have a hearing problem but have no issues with this unit - main unit is under the glovebox.
I'm a GME fan so I'd be hard pressed to go passed them.

The TX 3440 is a great unit. Very easy to use, full 3 year warranty and most importantly, made here in Australia.
You will not regret buying one.
Cheers

Hi Kiwi Kia
All of the GME Radios that are vehicle mounted are 100% made right here in AUSTRALIA, not overseas. The hand held TX 6200 is also made here in Australia.
The new 3 model small hand helds are the only radios that are made overseas.
Cheers
Stephen

Yeah I have a GME3440---great unit!!, mounted main unit under drivers
seat in my Cruiser and got a standard microphone extension cord and handpiece is plugged in on on dashboard. When
parking vehicle for extended periods I just disconnect microphone from dashboard plug and you wouldnt know there was a radio in the vehicle. When mounting to dash use the factory plug holes.
Goodluck

I have a TX3400 and it works very
well though a strange problem has developed. Running during the day it works perfectly and also at night with the headlights on. But, if I switch on my wipers along with my headlights, the head unit display will flicker. It's especially noticable when going over bumps and at lower speeds. The faster my speed the less the problem occurs. So is this a wiring problem or something more sinister?
