What if Toyota ... had had the foresight to do the following:

Build:
Limited quantity,
Pre-ordered,
Dieso HJ47 troopy / trayback re runs,
Every five years or so since 1984.

With:
Front coil, live axle suspension,
Power Steering,
6 speed gearbox,
Disc Brakes and
Decent Seats.

Would anyone have been interested besides the military / mining / farmers / emerging nations ????

I sure as hell would have been.

The 47series certainly had the look.
But what you describe is close to the HZJ/HDJ 78/79series - maybe you can do a bit of panelbeating, and add the 40series front panels :-))

Yeah, your on track Phil G ......

Its not so much "the look" I would like to see - rather the ablity to operate the vehicle without a battery and so forth .........

A 75 series would also probably do the job. Sadly, that series troopy shape would perform well in the Syd to Hobart which makes the lower profile, earlier model more appealing.

Every so often, someone pops up and seriously reckons that Holden should start making the EH model again.

Bring back the mighty HQ with 173 three on the tree and rubber floor mat or the XY falcon.

Yep! We realise too late that we never had it so good!

Apparently British Leyland aka BMC kept making the old Moggie Minors (albeit in small quantities) right up into the late 70's coz some silly old coots liked them and were still buying them! Apparently Leyland were losing 40 quid on each one they sold towards the end. No wonder they went down the gurgler!

Ahhh yesss.....the ol' Moggie what a classic machine that was. Imagine if holden did to the EH what BMW did to the mini i wonder how it would look.

Yep, some companies create a legend, never realise when the opposition has a better product and never know when to move on.....

Good Grief .. joc45 .... the EH was hardly any good even after a HR front end conversion and the fitting of a 4spd box and 186s motor - why would any one want to see those rebuilt ???.

The availability of a simple, well built, basic, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, ideally suited for remote travel, on the other hand, is a totally different matter.

Interesting assumption too - that a manufacturer, who kept early model tooling in place and produced PREORDERED vehicles on occaision, to meet military / commercial orders ( with a few private ones on the side) would go broke.

...............................................................................

RosscoH .... you know what ... if Haywood's business down in Tassie was still operating, you could take that HQ you want, over and have it converted to one of the best 4wd ever built.

Go to Brazil, I think they still make 40 series Tojo's there.
If they've stopped making them it would only be recently.
