Calling upon your bushies experience - is there a GPS navigator that is as good off road, tracks etc & in rural areas as it is in the city ? I like the feaqtures that units such as Navman and Tom Tom give me and I ideally would like to be able to upload say the Magellan "maps & tracks Australia" Do you know if this is possible ? One store told me that you can convert "maps & tracks" to Tom Tom and Navman format but I have not seen any soft ware on the internet that would do this.
If you could recommend a unit that you use off road I would really appreciate hearing from you - thanks

Don't forget that ExplorOz also sells the Hema Navigator!
Hema Navigator - Click HERE
If you are an ExplorOz Member, you also earn $49.95 in Member Money. Thus, making our price $50 cheaper than either of the above websites.

You can buy a 4.3" gps that uses winCE as the OS and will run Oziexplorer as
well as the turn by turn for just over $200 on ebay
see auction no 290251025121, good seller to deal with, no association just satisfied customer

Route 66 and Go (comes with two turn by turn programs) the map is Australia wide and on a recent trip out to the centre worked very
well even in
places like
Woomera etc.
Having used Oziexplorer on laptop, Pda and now the gps it is by far the easiest on the GPS nav unit, plus bluetooth for the phone, rev cam hookup etc.

Hi Ony
For serious work we still prefer the Garmin GPS276c , its sort of an engineers GPS which allows many features that I have not seen on others. Its been around a couple of years now as is a bit more expensive.
For example the ability to draw your own track and have the GPS follow it (not just waypoints).
Also does things like monitor the cars voltage and can tell you (ring an alarm when low).
Some of the above we find important as the bottom line on all map sets it that they have there weak points and have track errors.
Even on our last crossing of simpson a few weeks ago there were significant track deviations , which had you followed what most maps said , you'd be sorry.
This GPS has no issues in the cities as it runs the very
well known City Navigator map set which most use.
It cannot run the Ozi-explorer software like the Hema etc also reccomended above.
If you like Ozi- explorer and using the large range of available maps then I would not get the 276c.

Get a Nuvi 760 that will come with City Navigator installed , then purchase OzToppo V2.1 with Contours , install that to a 4gb SD Card and you'll have the best , also check the specs of the Hema here on EO and compare .to check out OzToppo
